Three orders, no problems. You may want to be careful if you order DVD's that come in a cardboard snap-case as they ship in an envelope rather than a box....

Perhaps 6 orders (20 titles) so far, last Crouching Tiger received day after street date. Always properly billed. Very helpful phone support. Not every title available but they are my first choice for on-line purchases. (Be sure to price compare, though!)

Have ordered about $1000 from them in the last few months. No problems yet. Alot get BO'd, but always arrives eventually.

Gotta throw in my 2 cents and give a shout-out to the DeepDiscountDVD (it sounds like my learn hip-hop overnight tapes are working). I've placed a bunch of orders from those guys and have always had a good experience. I do believe that I will be paying them another visit real soon. I know they've got Hannibal on the site now, but I think it's all over when they get the Godfather up there. Wow, it gives me chills just thinking about it!!!

media mail shipping is very inconsistent, so expect that
When you use the free shipping option, it's shipped via media mail (formerly book rate). Although it can often take just a few days, I've seen it take up to 20 business days. One of my orders with Columbia House took over 3 weeks to get to me. That's why Columbia House won't consider sending out a replacement shipment until at least 4 weeks have passed from the ship date.
Anyway, in my opinion, there's no valid gripe about shipping time if you choose that method (which I do from DDD). I would see it as totally reasonable that a pre-order arrived 3-4 weeks after release date (with the free shipping), since it can take that long in transit. |
Yeah, I guess the problem is it's hard to understand why it takes so long when I can drop a letter in the mail and it will arrive across the country within a few days.
Anyway, thanks to DDD folks who read DVDTalk forums. I actually received an email from them today mentioning they had seen my posts in this thread and offered suggestions and encouragement that it was sent, so it will arrive. That's always a good sign. :> |
I've placed 8 orders with Deepdiscountdvd, and they have been great to deal with.

Re: Re: media mail shipping is very inconsistent, so expect that
Originally posted by rkndkn Well, I live in Hawaii, and media mail seems too long and unreliable. The USPS says it takes 3 - 6 weeks to get here from the mainland. It really bothers me, too, when individual sellers want to use media mail -- I'm under the impression it's virtually the same cost as first class mail for 1 DVD. [/B] The last time I sold DVD's on ebay, it cost me 75 cents for a small padded envelope and 57 cents postage to send it. And I'm sure online retails can get a mass supply of padded envelopes for much less than what I spent. Anyway, my two DVD's on the way from DDD are definately over due now. :( It's been 15 business days on one and 12 on the other. I won't be using their free shipping again, I'm afraid. |
Not only reputable but they have the cheapest DVDs available online.

I placed an order which consisted of several advance order DVDs. Since I had a coupon, I decided to pay the additional $3.95 for "Priority Shipping" since it takes forever using the free shipping. My credit card was billed on 6/7 for Cast Away. When the shipment had still not arrived by 6/15, I called Customer Service. I was extremely surprised to be told that all "back orders" are shipped via the free method (Media rate). I advised the CSR that I had paid for Priority Shipping. The response I received was that it was "company policy" and I would have to wait a few more days before anything could be done. I will not be placing any more advance orders with this company. I still have not received my shipment - mail is delivered early!

media mail is the whole reason i'm a bit timid when buying on ebay..i always get smashed stuff, and if their gonna be sending brand new dvd's via media mail...i'm quite weary...but i'll place an order, and let y'all know how it goes...

I just received two packages from dvd online stores. One was from Amazon and the box was all banged up. The other was from Deepdiscountdvd and the box it was in was in perfect condition. I ordered the Deppdiscountdvd about a week after the Amazon order.
So i guess a bigger company that charges shipping isn't necessarily better than a little company that doesn't charge shipping. |

I gave up on CTHD and just went and bought it at BB. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth all the hassle, IMHO. |
I've had nothing but good luck with DDD so far (three or four orders or so. No pre-orders), but I have noticed that their prices are often not all that great even with the free shipping. I've seen a few DVDs on there priced above even the Best Buy price. So while I would recommend them, I would also advise to be sure and price compare.

I've used DDD a few times with excellent results. Sometimes their prices are the best and with free shipping it's a no-brainer,especially with a 10% coupon. About l5 dvds altogether with one problem - one dvd did not show after 3 weeks, I called them and they sent another one out. So far, very nice.

My most recent experience with DDD: I placed an order about a week ago for two titles (both of which are now en route to me) and emailed customer service with a question. They answered within ONE HOUR - that get's MY vote!

Limited Selection but Cheap
I have placed 3 orders with them so far and they have not had a single problem or delay. Everything arrived promptly and exactly as advertised. They don't have a lot of really obscure stuff, but maybe that's why they can sell so cheap and still have free shipping.

I ordered two Criterion titles, Hidden Fortress and Seven Samuri, both were back ordered but within 3 weeks i received them.
Great communication via e-mail on the status of the orders. Prices there are really hard to beat right now. |
I just did my second order with them, for the two Saint sets on A&E. I thought they weren't released yet, but they shipped.

I have not read the comments in this thread, but I buy all my DVD's from DeepDiscount and they exceed my expectations. Now, first of all, I am not concerned about how long a DVD takes to get to me. DeepDiscount uses media mail, which can take a week, but for free shipping, it is all good. I wish amazon, buy, dvdempire, whoever would offer this option.
DeepDiscount currently answers their phone in a few rings, is polite and customer centered, and has always accomodated any request I have made of them. Prior to discovering DeepDiscount, I didn't buy too many DVD's online. Being from the old school, and having an averaged "delivered" cost of around $7.00 per DVD, I couldn't bring myself to do it. DeepDiscount has got me back. I recently got a copy of the Criterion: Written on the Wind from them that had NO AUDIO TRACK on the disc. I phoned and told them and they, without missing a beat or having any prompt from me, said they would send out another one and include a postage return label. That is top notch. |
so far i have received all my DVDs that i have ordered .. not really fast ... and not gotten any "shipping confirmation" email ..
but to my surprise i got an email recently telling me that "unbreakable" has shipped ... i have become far more patient about getting my DVDs .. since i know they end up for weeks on the shelf anyway :) |
How is DeepDiscountDVD about cancelling preorders if you change your mind?
For instance, suppose I place preorders for several DVDs due out in a few months and then about a month before release some other e-tailer has the same preorders for several dollars less each. If I decide to cancel those preorders at DeepDiscountDVD and place them at the cheaper e-tailer (rather than go through the hassle of price matching), is DeepDiscountDVD good about cancelling orders as long as it's at least a week in advance of release date? Or are they like Buy.com where you often couldn't cancel a preorder even 1 month in advance? |
