Re: 2021 MLB regular season thread

How likely are general baseball fans to still be holding onto the grudge against the cheating Astros and Rob Manfred's shameful display from the Commissioner's office, and are ready to lit them up at the first opportunity; or have most of them forgotten and moved on due to Covid or other reasons?

No one has forgotten, and people will still boo them, but as you say, there are a lot more important things to worry about. The Astros escaped having 30,000 fans boo them 81 times (plus some at their home games) in 2020.

Re: 2021 MLB regular season thread

I don't think there are any roster restrictions this season so the Orioles are starting the season with a 9-man bullpen(no thanks).

Games are long enough as it is and the Orioles (and any other MLB team0 don't need to carry 14 pitchers on their 26 man roster.

I think Houston plays the Dodgers in LA this season. No telling how many fans will be in the stadium by that time. There's also no way to know if LA fans might respond as loud as they would have at this same point last year, since they now have their championship trophy.

Personally, if I were in the stands and the Astros came to town, I'd boo for the fun of it.

Can't wait for my team's average season.

I am obviously rooting for my team, but I'll also root for the Padres in the NL West next. I hope they can dethrone the Dodgers.

Re: 2021 MLB regular season thread

It surprises me that MLB doesn't allow teams to have a 5-man taxi squad during the regular season for such problems and it does make sense since they have postponed Triple A baseball for a month.

Why not just give them 1B priority or whatever and vaccinated them all. It's not like it's a million people or anything, maybe 1000 total players.

That's bad luck for the Nationals. Just a couple days ago MLB was gloating about one positive among tens of thousands of tests.

That would be a PR nightmare.

I am fairly certain that LA fans will boo as loud as they fucking can when the Astros come to town, regardless of the fact that they have a trophy now.

Re: 2021 MLB regular season thread

Lindor and the Mets have reached an agreement on an extension to start in 2022. 10 years, $341 million.

Re: 2021 MLB regular season thread

Wasn't Lindor just asking for 12 years and $385 million yesterday?

Then the Mets comes back with a "How about $1 more million than Fernando Tatis Jr.?" and he actually went for it.

Good for the Mets for getting that done. I look forward to hearing if there are opt-outs etc.

Was there an Opening Day deadline on an extension?

Re: 2021 MLB regular season thread

Orioles/Red Sox opening day game postponed until tomorrow.

It's going to be very cold in Chicago and Detroit so I don't know if those games get played because warmer weather is forecasted for tomorrow.

Yeah, he had said he didnít want to negotiate once the season started. Of course a lot of people say that, but one assumes that both parties here were highly motivated to get it done.

And apparently it doesnít have opt-outs, but it does have a no-trade clause, a large signing bonus, and a lot of deferred cash.

The deferred cash kicks in after the Mets' current TV deal expires. That's significant because the Wilpons still own the TV deal, but won't own the new one. So not only is the cash deferred, but it will be much easier to pay when it comes due.
