You probably don't remember 1963. I understand what you're feeling (honest), but the facts can take on a life of their own if not known. The AFL was the USFL of it's day. A MINOR league. It wasn't taken seriously until the Jets beat the Colts. Five years later. The NFL and it's fans looked down on the AFL as a much lesser league, and the general opinion of sports fans was that it was a fun, but inferior league with inferior talent. |

Yeah, we Dayton fans, who will never see a team this good again in our lifetimes, nor ever again see a No. 1 seed, nor ever again have the National Player of the Year on our roster... we really feel for Kansas fans. Not slamming you, D-man... just feeling a little depressed at having this once-in-a-lifetime shot taken away so abruptly. |

Monticello Elementary.... Good thing we stopped, I couldn't remember which preschool I went to so was gonna have to pick the bowling alley (Marian Lanes) I grew up in. I attended school with Dallas Egbert. He was almost exactly my age (maybe a month apart) but he was a genius and graduated years ahead of schedule. I think we overlapped in exactly one class at Studebaker before he was promoted to Wayne, and was at Michigan State before my time came. I remember him as being extremely socially awkward - no friends and lots of kids who were undoubtedly intimidated by his intelligence picked on him and belittled him for his size, his awkwardness, his clothes, his hair - anything they could latch on to. As an adult now I can see that it was unsurprising that his loneliness would lead to him taking his own life, but the adults in the 70's hadn't seen the things we've seen to have been able to head that off. It's a shame - he really was one smart cookie and could've done a lot for the world. |

Re: 2019-2020 NCAA Men's Basketball Regular Season Thread
I'm wondering.... perhaps now would be the opportune time for Dayton and the Big East to finally consummate their decade-long courtship and have the Flyers transfer in from the Atlantic 10?
Consider... Dayton's recruitment cachet and fame have never been higher, and they already have established bonds to many of the schools in the Big East - whether it's as a member of the Catholic 7 (including DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's and Villanova), or having shared unofficial conference status with several of the current Big East schools during the 70s and early 80s (home-and-home rivalries with DePaul, Marquette, Xavier, Butler, Notre Dame), or having played with several of these schools prior to the original Big East's implosion and rebirth (MCC with Butler, Marquette, Xavier and Notre Dame). Dayton would add strength to the Big East, would provide a natural geographic rival to Xavier, would help expand the league, while membership in the Big East would lock-in the gains the Flyers made over the past three seasons - particularly those enjoyed this season - and would provide an all-around upgrade to all parties. The Big East is adding UConn next season, bringing them to 11. Dayton (at least to me) seems a logical fit from a geographic, balance of play, historical, and theological perspective. |

Maybe it’s wishful thinking but once this blows over the NCAA will conduct a limited version of the tournament, whether it’s 16 or 8 teams. Just a hunch.
seeds 5-16 are sol I guess or they may expand the 2021 field to 128 teams to make up for the lost revenue |

Nah. Dayton are the champs. Not only did CBS SportsLine's computers confirm it, but there's already merch:

The coronavirus outbreak put an end to the NCAA men's basketball tournament before it could begin, prompting state Sen. Joe Gruters to introduce a resolution Thursday proclaiming the Noles "champions by default." Lawmakers voted 37-2 to pass the resolution late Friday. Florida State went 26-5 and won the first Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title in school history. The Seminoles were No. 4 in the most recent AP and coaches polls. Gruters, a Republican who represents Sarasota County and part of Charlotte County, received his bachelor's degree from FSU in 1999 and served on the university's board of trustees from 2011 to 2016. He wrote in the resolution that the Seminoles "were favored to challenge the top seeds in the national tournament and take home the national title" and highlighted the "tremendous skill on the court and the heart and spirit shown by the players and coaches." The resolution concluded by saying that it will be presented to coach Leonard Hamilton and university president John Thrasher "as a tangible token of the sentiments of Florida State." |

Given what I'm reading and hearing over the last couple of days, it's pretty clear that I underestimated the seriousness of the COVID19 virus.
As disappointing and heartbreaking as the end of this season was (no tournament), it was the right call. I was wrong. I didn't get it. But I do now. |

One final post and I'll move on... promise.
This was posted on the UD Athetic's Facebook page and I've been hoping for a public link, or even a crosspost to YouTube. It might happen later, but here's a workable Twitter link. This is from Dan Patrick.... and this is as close as we members of the Flyer Faithful will likely ever get, in our lifetimes, to One Shining Moment. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...02319b651c.jpg https://t.co/5xEP0GJZAl |
