I don't know why they keep trotting him out there. I know they managed to sniff within 4 points of a playoff spot there for a second, but the season is lost as far as I'm concerned - even making up 2 points is mountain to climb for a team that can't string together multiple wins.

Play Binnington as your number 1 so you can see if he's got what it takes to be an everyday goalie. I don't care how much Allen is being paid. He's wildly inconsistent and it's killing the Blues. I know people like to blame the defense in front of him a lot of the time, and there's some validity to that, but I can't blame the other players for playing a little bit deflated when he lets in so many soft goals, especially after he inexplicably manages some amazing saves.

Went to a great game tonight. Knights vs Penguins. Lots of Pittsburgh fans in attendance. Back and forth game until Vegas opened it up in the end of the Second. Marchessault (whose jersey I wear to games) scored a hat trick with an empty netter with seconds left. Knights win 7-3
Just a really fun games. Looks like Vegas is rounding into Playoff form now. Pens are the 8 Seed in the East now and look to be safe, but not where they usually reside in the standings.

Sharks are a hot mess on the road, but they did come back tonight to beat the Caps 7-6 in OT.

I am okay with the real-time player tracking, but do we really need another go at puck trails?

The standings are broken.

They say the Blues are in playoff position.

That's just silly.

They've been fun to watch the last few games, but I'm not taking my enthusiasm beyond that yet. It's going to take a lot more consistently above-.500 play for me actually start believing they can be good.

So it's top 3 in each Division and the next two in the Conference regardless of Division, right?

So the Blues are currently the 8 Seed but only 5 points in front of last-place L.A. Kings? That will be a battle for those final spots.

Taken from The Athletic. Here's the Playoff Probability graph against time. The Blues have really risen quickly.
In the Pacific, the three top teams have really separated themselves from the rest.

The chase for the Wild Card is going to be insane.

Their most recent road trip was much better, only allowing 8 goals compared to 24 on the last 4-game trip. I'm totally digging all the depth this team has this year. 5 20-goal scorers and 10 already with 30+ points.

Now if only Erik Karlsson would stop being hurt.

I'm glad that one of us had fun at a hockey game tonight. The Golden Knights are a total dysfunctional mess right now and got rolled by Arizona. They're tough to watch lately.

They should just go back to the top 8 in each conference (the Division winners would get the #1 and #2 seed). I understand they want more rivalries in the playoffs, but I think a more fair system is to just take the top 8 teams as usually 1 division is better than the other.

This.

I really don't like the playoff system right now as it is.

The Blues are now one win away from tying the franchise win streak record. You know things are really clicking when Jake Allen gets a shutout.

As it is at the moment, with the current system:
EAST: A1/TAM (96 pts) vs W2/CBJ (69); A2/BOS (78) vs A3/TOR (76), M1/NYI (76) vs W1/MTL (71), M2/WAS (73) vs M3/PIT (71)
WEST: C1/WPG (76) vs W1/DAL (63); C2/NAS (75) vs C3/STL (69); P1/CGY (79) vs W2/MIN (60); P2/SAN (78) vs P3/VGK (68)

If it were the top-8 (assuming division champs get the #1 and #2 seeds):
EAST: 1/TAM vs 8/CBJ; 2/NYI vs 7/MTL; 3/BOS vs 6/PIT; 4/TOR vs 5/WAS
WEST: 1/CGY vs 8/MIN; 2/WPG vs 7/DAL; 3/SAN vs 6/VGK; 4/NSH vs 5/STL

Same 16 teams.... 6 of the 8 matchups are identical, with only BOS and WAS swapping opponents.

Re: Official 2018-2019 NHL Regular Season Thread

Nice collapse by Montreal vs Toronto (up 3-0) and lost 6-3.

Toronto had 2 ENG's at the end of the game including the awarding of a goal by the ref when a Maple Leaf player was tackled going in to score at an empty net. He didn't look like he was in position too score ,however the ref decided to award him a goal anyways(which Montreal highly disputed).
