The May 2014 Pro Wrestling Thread: Extreme Rules

Sunday, May 4th sees WWE's 6th annual Extreme Rules "special event" coming from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The card is as follows...

(Pre-show) El Torito vs. Hornswoggle in a "WeeLC" match

Big E (c) vs. Bad News Barrett in a Singles match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena in a Steel Cage match

Paige (c) vs. Tamina Snuka in a Singles match for the WWE Divas Championship

Evolution (Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista) vs. The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns) in a Six-man tag team match

Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Kane in an Extreme Rules match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Alexander Rusev vs. Xavier Woods and R-Truth in a 2-on-1 Handicap match

Jack Swagger vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Cesaro in a Triple Threat Match
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This looks to be one of those shows that could be extremely hit or miss. On paper, the majority of the card doesn't seem all that exciting. We'll see what they can pull off in just a few short days.

Re: The May 2014 Pro Wrestling Thread: Extreme Rules

Last weekend, at a show in Canada, a lot of workers got stiffed by a promoter who left the venue before the end of the show. Supposedly, he even went so far as to fake a heart attack. Here is their official statement on the matter...

Following the disappearance of promoter Mark Livingston and his wife from this past weekend's Hardcore Roadtrip shows, the status of the promotion has been in question. As reported, several wrestlers were shorted in pay and left without travel arrangements and the promotion's Facebook page was deleted as well.

For those wondering if the promotion is now dead, the answer is finally here. The promotion's website issued a statement revealing that it is $10,000 in debt and is closing down. The full statement is below:

This past weekend (HRT) Hardcore Roadtrip ran shows in London, ON Canada and took a huge financial lost that left the promotion with a debt upwards of $10,000 Dollars.

We will no longer be running May 31st in London and June 1st in Toronto as the promotion has ceased operations. Refunds for these events are available through point of purchase.

Everyone that is owed money will get there money it's just a matter of when. Once everyone has been paid off the promotion will remain closed! Thanks to the fans for the support over the last year and a half.

Not even a dark match. Midgets are more important than the tag titles.

Yeah, it sucks. I was hoping they'd announce something on Smackdown, but I haven't heard anything. I was at least hoping for The Usos against Rybaxel or something. Just goes to show how they flip flop on the importance of the tag titles.

Totally made up list:

I Am The Game - Watch a WWE PPV Event where HHH buries talent
Puppies! - Watch a WWE PPV Event where Jerry "The King" Lawler utters the word Puppies
The Streak - Watch Every match involving The Undertaker at WrestleMania
The Crippler (Hidden) - Watch a match featuring Chris Benoit
The Ultimate Challenge - Watch the Warrior Vs. Hulk Hogan match at WCW Halloween Havoc '98 without skipping or fast forwarding.
God Of Thunder - Watch a WCW PPV match involving the KISS Demon

Also, new content on WWE Network includes the first WCW Clash Of The Champions, which originally aired opposite WrestleMania IV. It features the match that made Sting a star against Ric Flair. Hopefully this means the remaining Clashes are added, since they're basically PPVs anyway. Hell, start giving us Nitro!

Leaving in about a half an hour for Extreme Rules. Looking forward to it since it'll be my first WWE PPV event and first WWE event of any kind in over ten years. Splurged and got tickets three rows off the floor to the side of the Spanish announce table.

Have fun! I'm looking forward to the show. No killer match on paper but I'm assuming that most matches will be good.

Hope you have fun. Be sure to time how long it takes for the Spanish announce table to get destroyed.

Re: The May 2014 Pro Wrestling Thread: Extreme Rules

Are all of the matches on Extreme Rules even following that match type (no disqualification type matches) or is it just the name of the event now? Some of the matches are just listed as normal singles matches so I was curious. I'm assuming they aren't all following the Extreme Rules match type but it seems kind of silly to call the event that if the matches aren't all no disqualification of some sort. Either way the event doesn't sound like anything too special.

I'm guessing the latter. But I guess we'll find out soon!

It's a lesser PPV. But if you've got the Network (like I do), it's no extra money to watch. Should be better than a Raw episode.

Oh god ... WeeLC time. The announcers are clearly going to go non-stop with the "short" puns.

So they're cutting away for commercials for the PPV I'm currently watching?

And Torito wins! Actually a fun match (though the commentary did their best to make it unwatchable). Sadly, probably the most "extreme" match we'll get tonight. I thought I even saw an unprotected chair shot in there.

Triple threat kicks it off. God, Cesaro's new theme is so generic.

Ouch. RVD just cut his face up on that missed frog splash on the trash can.

Crowd still really wants to cheer for Cesaro.

Good wins for all the news stars so far tonight.

Shield again proves how legit they are in match of the night.

All the young guys are getting cheered and all the vets booed. Love it.

Re: The May 2014 Pro Wrestling Thread: Extreme Rules

Man, every time Cena and Wyatt try to "escape the cage" it makes me chuckle because it completely goes against what their feud has been like so far. Would either of them really want to escape the cage and suddenly win the match? They should have just done a no dq match.

So-so show, but the shield win was great. Love Rollins flying all over the place. And reigns looks like a beast. That is going perfectly.

I was just about to post that the Cena Wyatt match turned out ok, even with Cena winning, until that happened. Hahaha terrible ending.
