Can't wait!

Go England (I'm expecting failure as always ) and Ireland (hopefully can stir things up in their very difficult group).

I'd take Germany to win it though.

Rooting for Germany and Italy, though I'm sure the big match fixing scandal clusterfuck may have some effect on the latters chances.

I'll be cheering for Deutschland and Nederland. Too bad they're in the same group to start. It would be great if they both advance and that d-bag cronoldo crys his way to last place in group B.

Re: Euro 2012 - hosted by Poland and Ukraine

I hate it when two countries co-host one international tournament, giving both teams an automatic berth into a field for which they likely wouldn't have qualified on merit.

Hoping for Spain-Germany/Netherlands final, and that Balotelli doesn't kill anybody.

Nothing against those countries but I'd like to see someone else in there. But, for sure those are the favorites.

Re: Euro 2012 - hosted by Poland and Ukraine

England lost Gareth Barry last week, and he was replaced by Phil Jagielka.

Now they have lost Frank Lampard, and he has been replaced by Jordan Henderson.

As long as they cut off banana exports to Eastern Europe we should be OK on that latter one.

Six months ago I would have said Germany was going to walk away with this tournament, but fatigue after a long season, Bayern's defeat by Lokomotiv Hammersmith in Big Cup, Schweinsteiger's injury problems, and Müller's loss of form are worries. Spain are without David Villa and Captain Cavemanm and who knows which Netherlands team will show up?

Basically, as long as England don't win and Ronaldo embarrasses himself in some way, I'm fine with whatever else happens.

Re: Euro 2012 - hosted by Poland and Ukraine

England will not make it out of the group stage with those crap Liverpool players. Carroll, Henderson, Downing are the same clowns that got Dalglish fired.

I have Czech Rep and Poland in group A. Germany and Portugal. Spain and Italy. France and Sweden. Germany over Poland
Portugal over Czech
Spain over Sweden
France over Italy

Spain over Germany
France over Portugal

France over Spain

Fernando Torres wins the golden boot. England goes goaless.

My thoughts on the imports.

Seriously though, I can't see that being a problem, at least anymore so than other European nations. I can't speak to Ukraine, having not really ever been there, but I can't imagine the issue coming up in Poland.

As for Spain, I kind of like the addition of Pedro and think he will do well in Villa's stead. I also like Negredo. And I am not a huge Puyol fan, so I don't worry too much about his absence.

Really wish we could have gone.

Re: Euro 2012 - hosted by Poland and Ukraine

Gonna have to upgrade the cable for this and get the digital package and a DVR for the course of the tournament. Those kick off times are right in the middle of everyones work day and while I work in a restaurant and have access to the games, I'd much rather watch that home after I finish for the day.

I don't hold out much luck for England. The loss of Lampard & Barry is somewhat significant, coupled with Rooney's 2 games suspension means we'll be struggling a lot. Throw in Parkers damaged ankle and the prospect of having Henderson play really is nauseating.

Right now I'd say our star player is probably Joe Hart in goal.

That said, if we can avoid defeat in the opening game against France, then I do believe we'll make it to the knock out stages where we will lose on penalties to either Portugal or Germany since that is customary.

For right now, I'll say Holland to win and the dark horses been Czech Republic

Re: Euro 2012 - hosted by Poland and Ukraine

I don't see us(England) making it out of our group. I have a feeling we`ll only grab a single point and the Brit media will have a field day with it. Losing Lamps isn't nearly as big as Barry with no one to fill that hole. Ashley Young will be the stand out player, I am predicting.

I'm predicting he's more likely to be a fall down player, if you get my meaning.

Re: Euro 2012 - hosted by Poland and Ukraine

I'm just a novice but they put Holland and Germany in the same group? Yikes. I was looking at the odds and was considering Holland at +650. It's basically the same team that got to the WC final a couple years ago, right? Does only one team out of each group get to the playoff round?

OK. And are these the players that compete in the World Cup - the all-stars of each nation?

Yes.

And many consider this to be a better, more difficult tournament than the World Cup.

It's the luck of the draw. But the real problem is how they treat the host nations, which in this case number two. Those two (Poland and the Ukraine) got put in the top pool with Spain and the Netherlands. That bumped Germany and Italy down into the second pool. And pretty much meant whomever got stuck in Spain and the Dutch group would be tough draws (and as luck would have it, the top 4 teams drew into just two groups).

Got it. I knew that there was some segregation based on world rankings when it comes to the World Cup draw (and knew that the host nation gets treated as a top-team). Wasn't aware of that here -- particularly with 2 host countries. Pretty shitty way to handle it. Do they have trouble selling tickets otherwise?

And I didn't even notice the SPA/ITA grouping. Does the knock-out stage have those groups facing off or do they get the others? That will be a consideration for me. I'm not taking NED at +650 if they are slotted to play the winner or runner-up from the SPA/ITA group in the quarters.

edit: nevermind. I see that the quarters are A1/B2, A2/B1, C1/D2, C2/D1.
