Looks like it - seems like the catcher didn't have the ball yet.

I thought that bat was a bottle of beer for a second.

What is the story of that, it doesn't look like he's coming in from a direction to score?

It's from last year. From what I gather it is being run in reverse, other than that....no idea.

They Rays were employing the massive lefty hitter shift. (3rd baseman was playing at SS).
With no out and a guy on seems like a pretty good play to me (just bad execution).

Yeah I have no idea either but I'm sure he was doing it on his own. Possibly because the Rays put on a big shift for him and the whole left side was open. He pushes a bunt that way and Jeter may even end up at third if the Rays don't defend it properly.

Yeah, with that shift I think it's the proper move (assuming Grandy has even a little bunting ability).

So it did exactly what the defense wants a power hitter to do. Instead of playing to his strength, he tries to beat the defense and bunt, he ends up getting two strikes on two missed bunts and strikes out.

David, why did you quote your own post without anything further added to the post?

Well it worked for the Rays in that Granderson couldn't bunt but if he actually got it down then we're talking about Tex up with runners on and the Rays wouldn't be able to shift for him.

And also the Rays would have to think twice the next time they want to shift. Yes, they keep him from hitting it out of the park but they're also giving up a free base to a base stealer.

Anyone see Erin Robertson in the FOX booth? What a hottie. Nice pull for a relief pitcher.

Great outting for Hughes. 3 in a row now. At this point Girardis rotation choices should be easy... Burnett to the pen. But as usual the money factor will get in the way and Burnett will keep starting.

Re: MLB Weekend, August 13-14, 2011

I dont think it would change anything if a power hitter drops one down to get on base.
he homered later in the game and if he's dropping down bunts to get on then each time he does that its one less chance to hit one out.

They all do an extreme shift on ryan howard, I dont want him bunting. everytime he comes up its a scoring chance since he can hit it out on every ab he gets.
I'd rather not leave it up to the next guy.
sure the next Guy has 32 homers but he could also hit in a dp.

I guess my point is I dont think the defense will change just because he bunts it once.

After Zambrano tried to plunk Chipper and was thrown out, a bunch of the Braves came off the bench.
Why do they even need to do that. Zambrano is off the filed and out of the game.

The home plate ump went right over there and told them all to get right back on the bench and nothing else happened. Brilliant job by that ump and no need for those players to do anything but stay on the bench.

Dbacks win and keep the Giants 2 games behind. Ryan Roberts has pretty much made it so that they let Kelly Johnson walk after this season. I don't see them bringing him back at his price with the production that Roberts brings.

Dbacks magic number is 40...give or take a game or two. It's pretty much over in the NL West.

Vogelsong wins again for the Giants. He is definitely a favorite for comeback player of the year and a possible Cy Young candidate if he gets some more wins.
