Re: MLB Monday, June 27, 2011

The Twins comeback run is over. They seem to have some real chemistry issues.

BTW, I'll be out a lot the next two weeks, so I likely won't be able to put up threads much, especially next week.

Coming into Monday's games, there are 3 professional baseball teams that only have one batter with more than 25 RBIs. One is the San Francisco Giants and the other two are the Seattle Mariners double A farm team and the LA Dodgers single A farm team

Re: MLB Monday, June 27, 2011

Why didn't the Florida Marlins(afterall they are Florida and not Miami) reschedule their home games against Seattle to open dates or other cities in Florida including St. Petersburg? Would the NY Yankees move home games to Boston against the Red Sox. I think not. Seems like a royal screw job by MLB on the Marlins.

If it's not an act of god causing the rescheduling, I don't have a problem with it going to the visiting teams.

I wonder who paid for that 4,000 mile trip to Seattle plus motel rooms for 3 days? The Marlins are yet another team that isn't doing that well at the gate and if they ever folded MLB franchises-they would be at the top of the list.

There's been a lot of hearsay, so who knows what's true, but apparently there is some animosity between some players and Mauer. Basically that he gets special treatment and isn't really a team player. Then other guys are accused of being soft by the manager or press and it's thought they are doing it because of Mauer.

Ultimately, when a team is losing they either stop caring or get negative more than anything.

The problem is that Mauer sucks ass. I'd love to ship his ass anywhere.

I hate that I'm in the minority for not liking him and thinking that he sucks. How many times does he need to ground out to second before the brain washed fans stop thinking he's any good?

Great idea...let's move him to first. He'll be the only first basemen in the league who hits less than 5 homers and drives in less than 30 runs. Let's move him to left...same thing. Outfielders drive in runs too. Third base? Yup same deal. Can't DH. DH's drive in runs. He could play second base because he'd be a slight offensive upgrade over Casilla.

Joe's a douche. He's a natural athlete...could have been a starting D1 quarterback. I'm pretty sure he was a great basketball player too. Most likely he could have played any position and excelled in high school and college baseball. He chose the easiest position to get the major leagues.

I'm not saying a being a catcher is easy--far from it, but catchers are not expected to be offensive powerhouses. If a catcher can play 130-140 games and hit .260 and maybe drive in 50 that's pretty damn good. Catchers are also supposed to make like $5-10 million too. Obviously Joe typically hits much higher than .260 and when he's hitting he has the capability of driving in maybe 80 runs or so. The problem is that he plays in about 100 games a year and makes $23 million. Compared to the other guys making that salary he's an absolute joke. He should be driving in 120-130 runs every year. But since he's a catcher than can easily hit .320 he's considered great at the position but terrible for a first basemen or top outfielder and guys that make the money he does.

Wow; you know, when you're a fan of another team, you tend to just accept somethings that you have a cursory knowledge of and most of the time a "star" is usually left alone from performance evaluation.

Thanks for the head's up Starman and whoopdido, I'm going to go check out his stats now.

Actually I just checked his stats and I was a little hard on him when it comes to how many games he plays. In past years he's played roughly 140 games except for 07 and obviously this year he won't reach that number.

My criticism of his offensive numbers still stands though. I think 09 was an anomaly when he hit 28 bombs and drove in 96. He also his .365. That was just a crazy good year...for a catcher. If Pujols has those numbers or A-Rod or Ryan Howard or anybody else making the bank that Joe does it would be considered disappointing, but Joe has that year and now all of a sudden he's worth $23 million per year. If you look at his numbers for other years, except for his batting average, he's a joke.

Plus the Twins have gotten rid of numerous good catching prospects because they have Joe so that's all they need. Well, Joe's been hurt this year and we've had to deal with Drew frickin Butera hitting .175 for the year.

He's a clown and to make it worse he has a no trade clause, but I can't imagine any team would take over his bloated salary anyway especially given his paltry offensive numbers.
