Re: MLB Monday April 4, 2011

starman should be excited, his Twins get a chance at revenge against the Yankees. Mauer was able to own the Yanks on the MLB The Show TV commercial, so this should be no problem today, right?

Well played Mauer.

Re: MLB Monday April 4, 2011

The Rays have 3 runs in 3 games. Longoria is on the DL. This is going to be a rough year for them. Also with no closer or setup man, I'm thinking 4th or 5th place finish.

This year is going to be great. Phils already pitched their first three pitchers and still haven't gotten to Cole Hamels yet.

It was a ghost town. Part of the reason was because of the weather, but the Indians have been crappy for so many years now it looks like most of it is fan apathy. It's a shame because that building was packed every game for so many years in the 1990's and early 2000's.

Well played Mauer.
I think he only owned them for like one run in the commercial I saw.

I'm trying to be positive. I predict 4 wins in the season series for the Twins. :P

SI says they have the best farm system in MLB, as they are similar to the Rays of 2008. But the problem is if they ever contend, they will probably have to end up trading all of those players to big market teams like the Rays did.

It seems like we've been hearing about their great farm system for a long time though.

The Rays did trade Garza and Bartlett, but most of their lost talent this off-season was due to them not signing their free agents. Crawford, Pena, Soriano and Benoit were the big names who they didn't sign and are now directly feeling the absence of those players.

Most of their farm system is at the MLB level. When you trade away the likes of Zack Greinke, I don't know how you're ever going to win.

The homer idiots in my office, who have been fans since like 2008, are predicting the Rays will battle Boston for the AL East crown.

Re: MLB Monday April 4, 2011

Typical Yankees offense... start quickly, go into cruise control, start swinging at the first pitch that's close with runners on and let a starter who should be out of the game early somehow go 6 innings.

And Girardi already seems to have set the Joba-Soriano-Mo rotation in stone. Takes out Nova after just 83 pitches? Apparently starters not named Sabathia can't go more than 6 innings if it's a close game.

I think it was important for Joe to get Nova a W. Nova's numbers after the first 4 or 5 innings really take a dive. This outing will help his confidence in my opinion. He can start saving the bullpen later in the season. It's only April.

They are very positive about their teams in Tampa, only to fall twice as hard when reality sets in. That's one thing I always appreciate about NY fans, they have realistic expectations about their teams. Ask a Knicks fan if they think the team going past the 1st round of the playoffs. Ask a Mets fan if they are going to finish any better than 4th place this year. Most will be honest with you. I don't know if they are just overly optimistic here in Tampa or if they simply don't pay attention to what's going on with their team. You lose a ton of offense and replace them with retreads in Damon and Manny. You lose Benoit and Soriano and replace them with Farnsworth and Peralta. The Blue Jays and Orioles both made moves in the off-season to improve and the Rays made negative moves, so how could you think they would be contending for even a wild card? Ignorance or wildly optimistic.

Re: MLB Monday April 4, 2011

starman, close game but the Twinkies could not come up with the big hit. It was a good game though. Competitive and tight. 4-3 Yanks.

This Yanks bullpen is really going to be a big strength this season. Tex didn't homer but he hit a bomb that was only a foot or 2 foul. He received an unintentional-intentional walk after that. A-Rod came through for the Twins tonight hitting into 2 DP's.
