ESPN website, love it or hate it

I like ESPN for what they've done to sports coverage, but it's been several years since I regularly visit their website. When I do visit, I am reminded of why I hate them -- automatic playing ads and the latest in Adobe Flash (which requires me to download another add-in).

Am I the only one that feels this way?

No. For the few things I read on espn.com (TMQ, the various college hoops blogs, bracketology), I just bookmark the specific pages so I don't have to ever hit the home page.

Re: ESPN website, love it or hate it

Aren't those pages filled with the same type of junk? It's been a while since I even added their stuff to my RSS reader since they only give a teaser and you have to visit their website filled with crap.

The only website worse than ESPN is ... Chicago Tribune.

Not really with the blog type pages.

The problem with some of these web designers is that they they have a mentality of a child - flashier is better.

Re: ESPN website, love it or hate it

ESPN.com has been my default home page for more than a decade, though I don't know for how much longer. Will likely be replaced by CBS Sportsline. I'm tired of being force-fed videos in every link I open.

I hate the videos and I hate that most things anymore seem to be ESPN insider only

I respect ESPN, but for sports news I just go to Yahoo Sports. I know ESPN is better, but Yahoo just makes it easier to read.

Hate it. It's a browser killer.

Never cared for it. Prefer NFL.com or CBS Sportsline.

Hate it--too much going on. I stopped using it a year or two ago in favor of sportsline.

It's a heck of a lot better than the new ESPNW.com site (ESPN for women).

I don't enjoy videos playing on sites unless I want to click play. I like to browse pages in silence and without my computer fan reving up because the videos autoplay.

Re: ESPN website, love it or hate it

The videos are annoying but it doesn't matter to me that much since I have them muted. If it's something I want to see on the video I will turn the sound on. I like Si.com's layout and writers better though.

I'm not a fan of auto-playing videos on any website. I don't know who thought that was a good idea.

Love it but only for the super cheap Insider I have.

Then you should be posting articles. At least post the bracketology analysis in the college hoops threads.

I thought that was frowned upon around here?

I don't mind ESPN, but hate the annoying flash ad that shows up recently at the top. (blah blah, use ad blocker or whatever )

AdBlocker is the only thing that makes ESPN.com bearable. Stupid auto-play videos.

I'd like to walk into the warped universe of ESPN visitors that wants auto-play videos and the latest in Adobe Flash technology that requires you to download a new add-in daily.

Re: ESPN website, love it or hate it

For all those who hate the video autoplay, there's actually a handy "Autoplay Off" button on each video. Just hit it once and no more videos should autoplay.

I've done that several times, but it never seems to keep for longer than a day or so. I'm sure it's a browser setting that I have wrong, but with all of the hate towards the autoplayed videos, I can't be the only one with the issue.

Same thing happens to me.

Re: ESPN website, love it or hate it

Yeah, it remembers me being logged in for Insider forever, but it forgets the autoplay setting after a day or two.
