Re: MLB Sunday May 24, 2009

Mets go for the sweep in Boston today, and a chance at 6-4 on a very tough 10 game round trip.

Why on God's Green Earth would ESPN show Milwaukee-Minnesota??? They need to re-think their Sunday night schedule. Good thing I have MLB Extra Innings.

for ESPN showing teams that aren't named Dodgers, Yankees or Red Sox.

Hopefully the Dbacks get the sweep. Would be a great road trip for some momentum back at home.

Ankiel activated from the DL and in the lineup today.

And I don't think the Cards are on ESPN nearly enough.

how the hell was that not a HR for Youkilis? They showed 2 video angles that showed pretty convincingly that it was on the fair side of the pole.

Lidge gets another crack at the Yankees, in to protect a 1-run lead.

He's already given up a leadoff single...

Amazing.... it's like the Yankees were just waiting till the 9th on purpose.

Re: MLB Sunday May 24, 2009

It helps when stealing second is a given against Lidge (though this is an issue for many closers). I still don't understand why anyone swings at any 0-0, 0-1, 1-0, 1-1 slider from Lidge... it's a ball low ~90% of the time.

Re: MLB Sunday May 24, 2009

I saw Ken Rosenthal report yesterday about the Phils interest in a starting pitcher, but they have got to get Lidge straightened out if they have any hope on repeating as champs. It's amazing they've stayed above .500 with his ERA well over 9 this late in the season. He's still got great stuff and is striking some hitters out, but way too many guys are getting good wood on the ball. Batters are hitting at a .340 clip against him. Then when runners get on, they're running at will (2 more stolen bases against him today).

Re: MLB Sunday May 24, 2009

Cards pitching has been horrible today--giving up 3 runs in 8 innings.

Down 3-2 going into the 9th. Hopefully the bullpen can keep it at one run. Pujols would get an at-bat if somebody can reach base.

Contrary to popular belief, but there ARE more than 5 teams in MLB. I am glad they're showing that game. Not everyone wants to see the Red Sox and Yanks every fucking week.

Re: MLB Sunday May 24, 2009

Rasmus hit a ground rule double in the 9th for St. Louis. Perhaps he should have refused to go to 2nd. The Royals walked Pujols to put the winning run on base and Duncan lined out to end the game.

The Phillies setup man, Ryan Madsen, could step in the closers role without a problem. Starting pitching is what the Phils need.

Should have gotten the sweep but I'll take 2 of 3 in Yankee Stadium. There was an awful lot of red in there this weekend.

I actually like it when they have teams I'm not as familiar with on Sunday Night Baseball.

Sure, they could. But they haven't shown an inclination to put Madsen in that role yet. And the Phils have been fortunate. They've won several games, including today's, despite a blown save from Lidge. There's also been a couple of games where he's given up runs in save situations, yet managed to close the games out. If the Phils were 19-25 right now, as opposed to 24-18, then the problems with Lidge would be more glaring.

Twins have him next year too. They really need to try to lock him down now (too many local fans are convinced he's going to take a hometown discount, and while he might, I think it's only if they do it this year)
