Which suspension was not tough enough? America proves its stupidity.

ESPN poll question is which suspension was not tough enough.

todd bertuzzi, rafael palmiero, or kenny rogers (or none, they were all the right length).

RAFAEL PALMIERO is leading the poll.

the fact that it's not at least 90% in favor of bertuzzi makes me question the collective intelligence of America.

it also doesnt help that it took place in a sport that turns its eyes on violence and lets the players beat the shit out of each other, because thats they only way to put butts in the seats

sure, his was dirty and he deserved to be punished.. but its not as shocking, when you look at everything else they can get away with

When was the last time Bertuzzi's incident ran ESPN for a week or more? Top story on every piece of programming, as well as on national news shows, late night talk shows, sports radio, etc. Did it ever? Bertuzzi's suspension and reinstatement combined haven't come close to even sniffing the amount of coverage Raffy and steroids have gotten. The poll results are wrong, but I don't see how one could expect them to be any different given the current climate. And that's on top of the popularity of baseball versus hockey, and the time passed since Bertuzzi's assault.

Fixed. Anyway, the answer to this poll is obvious for anyone paying attention to sports and not just mainstream obsession over steroids.

Plus the fact that what Bertuzzi did, although bad... wasn't anything extraoridinary in the annals of NHL history. If the result wasn't a freak injury (and face facts, that's what it was, a 1 in 10,000 injury) and he gets right back up off the ice, it's a major penalty, game misconduct, 1 or 2 game suspension and everyone forgets about it.

The incident back in ~93 during the playoffs where one of the Islanders players (Turgeon?) was whacked from behind with a stick was far, far worse than the Bertuzzi incident (and I'm a Devils fan, not a Canucks fan).

Dale Hunter hit Turgeon in the back while he was celebrating, McSorley whacked Brashear with a stick, and Domi leveled Niedermeyer with an unnecessary elbow, but none come close to Bertuzzi remodeling Moore's face in terms of startling violence IMHO. I played hockey and pulled a McSorley and had a Domi pulled on me. Dale Hunter didn't demolish Turgeon as bad as it looked in slow-motion.

The thing that made the Bertuzzi incident even worse was that he said he was going to fuck Moore up ahead of time. Of course there's violence in hockey, but there's definitely no place for premeditated violence.

ok, yes, I voted for Bertuzzi. But as folks have said, it's out of people's minds. Plus, people probably don't realize that he didn't really serve any suspension since the NHL was shut down.

And you needed proof that America was stupid?

Pic is of a kid that fell from the upper deck of Yankee stadium last night and landed in that foul ball screen behind home plate.

I agree, Bertuzzi is worse. But like others have already said, 1) Steroids are the hot topic and 2) It's Hockey.

My bad, I'd only seen the initial posts in yesterdays baseball thread saying someone fell. Didn't follow up on it this morning.

What a dumbass.

As for the topic, suspension length should have been Bertuzzi, Rodgers, Palmeiro in that order.

Moronic statement of the year!

Bertuzzi got caught up in the moment! as for premeditation every time a pitcher intentionly hits a batter he is premedidating that he could possibly kill the batter with a fastball to the face.

STEROIDS HAS WRECKED THE GAME OF BASEBALL!!! YOUR A STUPID FOREIGNER IF YOU FEEL STEROIDS DONT INVOLVE THE PREMATURE DEATH O FOTHER INDIVIDUALS!!

Think about all the kids that will play with the risk of using steroids just to try to get an edge. While Bertuzzi took his anger out on one individual, steroids are affecting millions!

I say one injury of that nature and the punishment sufficed just fine.

Kenny rogers did nothing wrong, Im so sick of the fucking media getting in players faces, just leave them the fuck alone. There use to be a time where athletes could eat in peace, go through warm-up without being harassed and so forth. Kenny Rogers is a hero, i commend him!

It's a worldwide poll and all countries get to vote. They even post the results by country sometimes.
