If you could be the head coach (cfb) anywhere, what school would it be for?

Q: Assume you're a coach and every D-I job in America is currently available. Every school is prepared to offer you their head coaching position, and every place offers you an identical salary with the same three-year, "no matter how bad I do, I can't get fired as coach" contract. If you could coach only one program, which would it be and why? Which would be the last job you'd take?

So this is exclusive to college football? Meh, I'd probably still say UNC.

Florida - they're in the SEC and they're in Florida, the 2 top things many recruits look for. Also, although you obviously have to win, Zook was awful but still had 3 years to win, so they're not unrealistic like Notre Dame, Nebraska, and the other super-high-pressure spots.

A high-pressure place would be tough.

I'd probably take Penn State. It is a name program and it has been run into the ground, so you probably have nowhere to go but up.

I'd like to sink a program like FSU, but that's absurdly unethical. And I'd love to loft a program like Notre Dame, but I'd rather some other guy face all that pressure. The honest answer, if I had any skills and could get hired, is ...

Hawai'i

I think that would be a tough job. Big 10 teams all have unrealistic expectations; is it a better conference top to bottom than the SEC, ACC, Pac 10, Big 12, MAC, new Big East? You'd be taking over for a legend, always bad, who's run a once proud program into the ground. While once they had their pick of the east coast, now they're no more attractive than Maryland, BC, or Pitt. I read the OPs link and the writer makes a compelling case for BC.

Replacing JoePa now is nothing like Zook replacing Spurrier in Florida (which was one of the top-5 programs in the country at the time). The expectations are low - they'd be happy to go to the Weed Eater Bowl now.

Also, if I'm going to be a college coach, I want to work in a real college town like State College.

big10 has a LONG way to go to get back to the level of the big12 and sec
and the acc is on a major rise

And I'd like to sink Nebraska so low that they received the death penalty.

This is a very good topic, BTW. I'll have to try this in November when college hoops is starting up.

I guess I would pick UCF to try and turn that program into what has been promised forever, but they still seem to suck ass. Plus it would be nice to go back home. I would not want to be the coach at FSU just because they need a little help right now and wouldnt want to follow in the shoes of Bowden while trying to rebuild...

WVU. My alma mater and the team I've rooted for my whole life. It's a good situation. Cost of living is cheap, still get a good salary (Coach Rodriguez will be making over a million in a year or two) support of the state etc.

Anything would be better than June Jones. Plus you could screw the top Wahine volleyball player, too.

I'd pick UW. Blame the ex-gf for making me sort of a Huskies fan and it's a shame watching how shitty their program has become.

Miami wouldn't be a bad place. Despite their success, I don't get this feeling that there is this heavy pressure like you see at other places. Plus, you get to live in Miami, which ain't too shabby.

Last year no Big 10 team finished in the top 11 in the BCS. 1 ACC team, 3 SEC teams, 2 Big 12 teams, 2 Pac 10 teams, 1 Mountain West team, 1 WAC team, and one Conference USA (!) team finished ahead of everyone in the Big 10. Outside of a flukish bowl win for Iowa over LSU, the best out of conference win last year for a Big 10 team was.. Indiana winning at Oregon? Wisconsin winning at Arizona? Ohio State's 3 point win against Marshall at the horseshoe?

I would say the SEC, ACC, Pac 10, Big 12, and new Big East are all vastly superior conferences. If you're going to mock me please present an intelligent argument for the Big 10 as a top 4 conference.
