2009 Super Bowl awarded to Tampa

The National Football League announced Wednesday that Tampa in Florida will host the 2009 Super Bowl.

In a vote by league owners meeting in Washington, Tampa beat out Atlanta, Houston, and Miami.

Super Bowl XLIII will be the fourth Super Bowl in Tampa, the first one since the Ravens whipped the Giants 34-7 in 2001.

The first Super Bowl in Tampa was held in 1984 when the Los Angeles Raiders beat the Washington Redskins 38-9.

Detroit will host the Super Bowl in 2006, followed by Miami in 2007 and Glendale, Arizona, in 2008.

Yeah, they are whining here about not getting the '09 Super Bowl on a talk show I listen to in the afternoons. I didn't want it here anyway, so it doesn't bother me who gets the SB.

I honestly would have liked to see it in Atlanta. The Halftime show would have been pretty cool with all the ATL stars in the house.

Hooray, although I doubt I'll still be here when it happens.

Why? Do you owe some mobsters gambling money or something?

SportsTalk980's Sports Reporters were ecstatic upon hearing the news yesterday. One cheerfully commented, "we will be able to see Venus on the clearest of nights."

Are they ever going to have Superbowls in the north ever again? I'm sick of the perfect weather spots they keep choosing or northern domed stadiums. I'd like to see one played in Green Bay or Buffalo just to mix it up.

It will never happen. If they aren't willing to put one at 91,000 seat FedEx, they won't put one in Green Bay nor Buffalo.

That sucks. I've always felt that unpredictable weather conditions make for great football.

But we just had a Super Bowl here! I hope Tampa can get their act together by 2009 and get home field advantage. Which, BTW, I don't think has ever happened before.
