Lakers 2004 championship run discussion thread

I hope the Lakers blow out the Wolves early today. Kobe seems to be tired having flown so much back and forth from CO. Let's hope Shaq gets at least 20 shots against the Wolves.

Than we simply don't agree. Fair enough.

And I think it's very reasonable that Lakers fans take this opportunity to rub the loss in.
As long as you (and others) realize that I simply took the opportunities the Lakers and their fans afforded me to rub things in this season.

I predict that those opportunities will be rare from now on (after the Lakers beat the T-Wolves tonight - if they want to).

Mods - thanks for the feedback on acceptable behavior in here.

Interesting prediction, Thrilla - is that based on any particular reasoning?

I'm curious how you see that much Minny dominance, based on recent play.

It was sarcasm!

Really...I see them winning by at least 10. Just my prediction.

Oh, and I hate the Lakers.

Da Thrilla is this board's die-hard Wolves fan and is still smarting from KG not getting MVP last year.

RaptorsFan happens to be a big time Vince Carter fan.

Hang around enough, you'll see who are everyone's favorite teams.

Interesting, but nothing new.

Webber: Shit dude, I'm back! Why aren't we being dominant!?
Peja: You should go back to the bench. We were fine without you.

KG's a lock at MVP this year.

And the Webber graphic shows he costs them (on average) 7 points a game, though it's really much more than that (morale, activity, smarts).

Oh yeah, I pulled for him to get it, KG single-handedly got the Wolves to the Playoffs.

I can't say he's a lock, because the Wolves did get a lot of help for him this year.

What do you think of the brutish thuggery of this Laker franchise now?
Do you find their school-yard blustering and selfish dysfunctional disruptive streetball superstar antics to be endearing, or do you wish they could be more classy and professional and sportsmanlike, like the Showtime Lakers and teams of old?
I think Shaq makes an ass of himself sometimes (OK, fairly often), I think Kobe is innocent (and if I'm right he is being put unjustly through an undeserved and hellish experience) and I don't like the periodic infighting and bickering. Certainly the Baylor-West-Chamberlain and Magic-Kareem-Worthy teams were the height of class and this team does fall somewhat short of that.

However, you're overdoing it with the "have you stopped beating your wife" type phrasing of your question.

They are my team and I love them but yes, I'd prefer to see them act more like those other teams.

In all fairness, i don't see how the Lakers can be singled out as having a so called change in attitude and behavior. You have Iverson and his recent protests, Webber whose had his share of court problems, the Trailblazers and their countless brushes with the law. But that said, I think with the media coverage being that much more prominent these days, its unfair to compare the actions between each generation and automatically assume they had more class.

Should be a good game, I hope it's cleanly called. BTW: as some of you have noticed, I think the mods will be watching these threads more closely than before. So let's all just keep it clean, keep emotions under control, and there shouldn't be any problems.
