"Stop playing/watching sports on Sunday" - the Pope

Pope says Sundays for God, not sports
VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope John Paul says Sunday should be a day for God, not for secular diversions like entertainment and sports.

"When Sunday loses its fundamental meaning and becomes subordinate to a secular concept of 'weekend' dominated by such things as entertainment and sport, people stay locked within a horizon so narrow that they can no longer see the heavens," the pontiff said in a speech to Australian bishops.

John Paul criticised the "culture of the 'here and now'", urging Church leaders to "lead men and women from the shadows of moral confusion and ambiguous thinking".

The 83-year-old pope also encouraged Christians, especially young people, to remain faithful to Sunday Mass, saying the secular culture was undermining family life.

Well maybe they should take baby steps and ask that they stop on Lord's day to start.

I imagine this will catch on, just like his proclamation against pre-marital sex.

The pope later added that watching sports on Sundays are OK if you are watching the Saints, Cardinals or the Padres play.

Don't be so hard on the Pope. He doesn't live in a real world. He lives in a carefully constructed and sheltered world where people give a rat's ass what he has to say and don't point out that he's so far outside the normal scope of life that his opinions are all completely invalid.

The Pope lives essentially in an imaginary world. We shouldn't be shocked when he says and does things that don't appear to have any basis in reality.

I suggest one of his priest pretends that he is a pre-adolescent choir boy, or the now classic and default **** him.

I go to church early on Sundays so that I can get home and fire up the BBQ and then watch football all afternoon. Everyone else in my church does the same thing.
