On Raw a little while ago, J.R. & Jerry "the King" Lawler announced that he passed away.

Very sad! I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times, a great man! I always got goosebumps when he returned on WWE tv like he did 3 weeks ago. RIP Freddie, give 'em hell in heaven.

"Classy" Freddie Blassie, one of the all-time greats in this industry, has passed away. It was announced tonight on Raw that he had passed away earlier this evening. Blassie had been in the hospital for the last week or so for heart and kidney issues. He was 85.

This is really sad news. You know you are getting old when all of your boyhood heroes start dying. It started with the Mick, now Freddie Blassie!

Fred Blassie was a showman the likes of whom we will not see in our lifetimes. He contributed phrases to the english language that will be long remembered after his death. Next time you hear "Pencil Necked Geek", Blassie invented that! My favorite saying is "I'd rather be a King in Hell, than a Stooge in Heaven", that's Blassie too!

I have the Blood Red LP of "Blassie King of Men", got it in 1978. It's one of the main reasons I keep a record player around!

I can hear Freddie shouting at a heckler:

"Sit down in your seat, you little Pencil Necked Geek! You had no toys to play with when you were yoddling, so you played with yourself! You beat your meat instead of you Tom Tom. You father wanted a boy, your mother wanted a girl and they both were happy!"

Or talking about winning:

"If my own mother, my own grandmother got in my way of winning a match.......... I'd knock my mother down, say "get out of my way, you old broad", then kick my grandmother for a field goal!"

"Classy" Freddie Blassie, truly the "King of Men"!

When Freddy Blassie came out to the ring, he didn't have the fans chanting along with stupid little rhymes and catchphrases. He didn't need crap like that to keep their attention. He terrified them and made them hate him like nothing you could imagine. He frequently needed police escorts out of the building, because half of the audience would be waiting to lynch him outside.

His work with John Tolos is the stuff of legend. Bloody, violent, and total classics. He also worked great feuds with Haystacks Calhoun, Ray Gunkel, Dick Steinborn, Sandor Szabo, Don McIntyre, The Sheik, etc. I could name names for the next hour. He was one of the first crossover celebrities too. Back then, wrestling got even less respect from legit sports than it does today, but even movie stars knew Blassie.

On RAW tonight, Ric Flair correctly stated that the word "legend" was thrown about with too much ease. Freddie Blassie was one of the last true legends. I am so happy that he got a chance to appear one last time on TV a few weeks back on RAW.

Oh yeah, by the way, Blassie also did three-and-a-half years in the navy during WW2.

"Win if you can, lose if you must, but at all times, cheat."

Good bye, Classy Vampire Sailor Loverboy
Thanks for everything you gave us

Honk!

Now this is one guy who truly deserves his own Best Of ....DVD (I mean, they're putting one out for Rey????). The dude would draw HUGE heat, cut a wicked promo, and carry a broom to a **** match (assuming the broom could juice).

But they'll never do it because it'll make all of the current boys look absolutely horrendous by comparison.

We should all screen My Breakfast with Blassie in tribute; it's hysterical. When he talks fans putting their fingers thru the toilet paper, it's classic; ROTFLMAO just thinking about it....

Wonder how Bubba Dudley feels knowing Freddie's last words spoken near the square circle were "Bubba! Get the Tables!!"
