Jurassic World Rebirth (2025, D: Edwards) -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
Rated PG-13
Running Time: 133 Minutes

BTW, there is a 50 second teaser of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey that is scheduled to be shown before this.

Wow, this was bad. I couldn’t imagine them making a worse entry than Dominion, but somehow they managed to do it. Lazy plot, lazy acting, and almost every dino scene derivative of a scene from one of the previous movies.

Liked it enough and it's such a standalone film in the franchise that I don't believe Spielberg poached Gareth Edwards for future installments like he did Colin Trevorrow. Shot on film and the visual effects are flawless as is customary in a Gareth Edwards film.
The Dolby Cinema experience was epic. We also got the badges and lanyards.

Really didn't care for the family plot. Would have been just fine if it was just the main team sneaking in. Really enjoyed all the action pieces and I would still recommend it because it's just fun. It's better than the Pratt movies.

I saw the reviews and have only moderately enjoyed one or two of the sequels. But I had a pretty slow couple days and needed to get out. So really it’s my own fault. But dear lord. Not a single positive thing I can say about this. After JP3 I thought it couldn’t get any worse, and then Fallen Kingdom happened. To make a film worse than that would take an act of god. Or so I thought. Absolute trash. The worst in the entire series.

I enjoyed this one - better than Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, easily. I have a soft spot for JP3 and this reminded me of that (crashing on an island). Enjoyed the actors involved and thought some of the sequences were quite thrilling (first time to have a major setpiece on the water, for example).
4 stars from me - I had a good time!

Totally serviceable July 4th fluff to enjoy and walk out and immediately forget. Looked like an actual movie, which is more than I can say for a lot of PlayStation cutscene-blockbusters that come out. I will say that it seems like compositing is becoming a lost art.

Eh, sure better than the last couple outings but also pretty forgettable. Nice everyone involved, including Scarlett Johansson, director Gareth Edwards and the screenwriter David Koepp, got a paycheck but can't say I'll remember this one come next week. Most positive thing I have to say is it doesn't overstay its welcome as it is under two hours when you take out the credits. 2.75/5

Caught this today at a packed theater. Now I remember why I try to avoid movies on holidays.
I give it 3/5 stars and think I'm being extremely generous. It has just the right amount of dinosaur action to keep one entertained, unlike the last one which seemed like it had to be reminded it had dinosaurs in the third act. It was better than the previous two entries, but that's faint praise. I found the aspect of ScarJo's character doing the job for a lot of money quite meta, as that's undoubtedly why she took the role. I don't care if she's been a long time fan, she was getting a big check. That being said, at least she didn't phone in her performance and did her best with what she was given. Same for Mahershala Ali. Dude is a great actor, and it's kind of a shame he took a paycheck role.
The movie itself is a retread with some newly designed dino creatures, which don't look too impressive IMO unless you just like generic horror design. The D-Rex looked like someone tried to mix a Xenomorph with a T-Rex and add extra hands. Didn't work for me. The subplot with the Latino family wasn't needed. I am thinking when they were pitching the movie they didn't know whether they wanted to go with a group of people on a mission or a family that finds themselves shipwrecked on one of the JP islands, and they decided to go with both of them. One or the other could have made for a pretty tight movie, but both lead to the overstuffed nature mentioned by other critics. I actually think a story of a family happening upon the island and discovering all that was going on with only what they found as exposition would have made for a pretty cool movie with lots of horror elements, but that didn't happen.

I just got back from seeing it. I don’t really have much in depth analysis to offer. It’s a freaking dinosaur movie. But, I didn’t think it was nearly as bad as some made it out to be. I actually thought it might be the best of the Jurassic World portion of the series. The last few of the Pratt led movies were pretty bad. The dinosaurs here were actually pretty scary looking and there were a few violent deaths.
I did think the family characters were pretty dumb.
at how they thought they could outrun that T-Rex on a raft. That was an eye rolling moment.
I saw this on a regular screen and the theater was packed. This is going open huge, but probably have a huge drop week 2 when Superman comes out.
I did like hearing some parts of John Williams JP theme.

Saw it this afternoon with a packed house... last chance I had before it leaves the Dolby theater.
I thought it was surprisingly good and yeah may be the best once since JP3. I didn't have an issue with the Rancor on steroids.

Caught this before it's out of the Dolby screens as well. Yeah it's definitely bottom tier, which isn't to say it's unwatchable (I gave it 2.5) but there's no excuse for it to not have been much better. The main issue is you don't care about any of these new characters, and the scenes where they tried hard to force you to care were just so poorly done.(although Ali's arms were quite impressive) I really think they should've tried to connect some of the previous films in some way, would've helped imo.
Also should've taken an extra year or two to plan out a new trilogy as I'm not sure where they go from here. I'd still like to see the Dinosaurs ruling the Earth, with everything being overgrown and reverting back to the prehistoric era.

I thought it was extremely mediocre. Some of the effects were cool. Scar Jo was just fine. I had to laugh when Johnathan Bailey went back to the flare box and grabbed like 5 more flares instead of grabbing the first one and lighting it before the rescue helicopter flew away. That felt very much like a plot device that would come back later, and sure enough, it did!

Listened to Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast on it today …
Great take on viewing it through a meta lens. They have to keep mutating and recycling the dinosaurs (plot) because audiences got bored with dinosaurs (special effects in these movies), so the park owners/bio companies (studio execs) can’t give up on it (right to profit, IP) so they keep mutating and recycling more and trying to cram it down audience’s throats for a dollar.

I have to say that I was a little surprised by this movie. It really wasn't nearly as bad as the critics made it out to be. It by no means was a great movie. Not even a good movie. But it wasn't terrible or even terrible to the point of being offensive like the last two were. I actually did buy the little bit of character development they had. They were a tiny step up from dino fodder. I did like how they even tried to bring back some of the wonder with the scene with the titanosaurus. I totally bought in to the quiet wonder of that scene. It was nice and something missing from basically all the movies since the first one.
The plot was okay. I'm very glad the dinos were in there even though the velociraptors were relegated to a cameo. I absolutely hated the mutant dinos though. The D rex looked so so stupid and the winged raptors were even more dumb. I really didn't like them. I don't think they need monsters in a dinosaur movie. I didn't mind the family subplot either. I thought it was pretty decent and provided a contrast from the special forces side of things. I bought in to the dad role protecting his daughters and dealing with a boyfriend. I'm sure I wasn't the only one.
I thought they did a pretty good job of making the bad guy not being a moustache twirling bad guy.....until they made him a moustache twirling bad guy. I mean I guess it's not like its the most critical role of a JP movie but still. It would be nice if they could come up with a better villain. Or just no villain at all. I'm pretty much back and forth between a 3 and 3.5 star rating. It was decent for what it was. Much better than pretty much all of the transformers movies.

It was okay, I was bored with this more than anything. When they were talking about the museum and how it was once popular and the previous week only a dozen people showed up it really hit home with this movie. When I was a teenager and first saw the Jurassic Park movie opened it was mind blowing and this one I wouldn't have bothered if my kid didn't want to see it. I actually find Dr. Dvd's idea of the family just ending up on the island more intriguing.
