Party City to close all stores

I just heard about this. We have one near us but I only went in there once to get balloons.. and they were out of balloons. What party store runs out of balloons? That's like a hospital running out of band-aids.

Anyhow.. never good to see these places going away.

This makes me happy because early last year they moved into the building that was originally our Virgin Megastore. Hopefully the NEXT tenant there will be a more worthy replacement. (Anybody wanna go in with me and open a store there?)

I guess that is one way for you to look for a bigger apartment . . .

An old Virgin Megastore would be the perfect place for Alan to live.

When I was little, I wanted to live at K-Mart because they had ALL the Star Wars toys!

A boy can dream, right Alan?

Re: Party City to close all stores

I didn’t go to Party City often, but if I was in the area doing shopping, I’d always pick up the disposable table covers (for house parties). Good quality and great price ($1.50). Handled normal party messes and didn’t rip.

I tried Dollar Tree table covers before and those ripped immediately out of the package.

Party City wasn’t bad at all. Decent prices for decor and supplies. Just lost to Target, Walmart, and Costco competition.

We've got one in my city - a pretty big one - haven't set foot in it in like 20+ years or so.

I think DollarTree killed them on the low end which made their business model obsolete.

Makes sense, since the dollar stores have lots of party supplies.
Plus as I mentioned before, I get my helium balloons there too...

Re: Party City to close all stores

The thing I liked about Party City is that they had Halloween stuff all year long. I'd pop in every now and then and look around, but I think I only ever bought something there once, when they had something I couldn't find anywhere else. Can't, for the life of me, recall what it was...

That might have been the flaw in their business model, that they mostly focused on disposable stuff people tend to buy at other places, and only go to Party City when they can't find it anywhere else.

Someone had a funny post on twitter or bluesky saying "Party city is closing!" is a bad ass thing to say to someone before kicking them in the nuts.
