Has anything surpassed the sheer insanity of Puni Puni Poemy?
I was reminded of this burst of insanity on YouTube the other night with a recommendation. I haven't kept up on anime much but I was curious to see if anything had surpassed the batshit craziness of this movie.
For the unfamiliar, Puni Puni Poemy is a two-part, two-hour film from the maker of Excel Saga that is a total piss take on the whole magical girl trope particularly Sailor Moon. And it is an absolutely brutal sendup of the genre featuring the most hyperactive dialog I've ever seen. The voice actors must of been hopped up on a half-dozen espressos. It's the only movie I have to watch the English dub with subtitles on. So I'm not sure can be surpassed and still be watchable. But I am curious

I was going to say Excel Saga, since they're related. Excel Saga is crazy. I tried to watch it with my daughter and quickly remembered that it's not only not safe for kids, it's really really hard to explain (and the manga is zany in a completely different way).
I'm not sure anything matches how jam packed PPP is but stuff like Nichijou and Amagi Brilliant Park are certainly out there, as is something recent like Nokotan. More recent parodies probably fly way over my head since my fandom of anime is entrenched in the 90s/00s and I probably wouldn't get a lot of the references.
