What kills your interest in a movie that you initially had interest in?
So what kills your interest in a movie the most after seeing a trailer or reading a description and initially being interested in it?
I know there are too many movies to keep up with and you can't or don't have time to see them all. So what would kill your interest in it after being initially interested?
This is a multiple pick poll
I know a lot of you didn't see Horizon and it's done poorly at the box office. I still wanted to see it because I'm a fan of the big screen Western and made the time investment. But most of the time, a 3 hour movie with bad reviews would automatically kill my interest.

Probably lack of buzz. Not because I don't still want to see it, but more because it likely had a short theater run that I missed. And then I just forget about it and don't notice when it comes to streaming.

Unnecessary length. Horizon, Rebel Moon, some MCU films, etc. Very few stories deserve a 2.5+ hour run time and I don't have patience for filler these days. I know it's against his vision, but if Horizen was a tight 100-110 min complete story, I'd be vastly more interested in seeing it. Same with Rebel Moon. I'd watch a cheesy SW clone if it was only 90 minutes and told a complete story.
Reviews don't sway me since some of my favorites were BO bombs with bad reviews.

I picked other because I can be picky about my movies.
One example I've used for years was John Carter. When I first heard it was being directed by Andrew Stanton of Pixar, I was very excited. I had read the stories not long before that was announced and I thought Pixar doing a story set on Mars was going to be amazing, especially with all the aliens and such.
Then I heard it was going to be live action and my interest dropped so hard it thudded on the floor.
Still haven't seen it.
Related examples: Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. There was no need for this to be a reboot and there was no need for it to be an all female Ghostbusters movie.
Just write a new GB story set in the same universe, but it's a new franchise location. Then cast four women for the leads.
This is an example of a filmmaker with an "agenda" that I can understand why people complained about it having an agenda.
And I have seen it. It's okay, but I have no real interest in re-watching.

Ditto on long running times. To give an example, I would love to have seen Scorsese's last film, KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, in a theater, but two hours is my limit these days. It's a problem for me even with something on TV. When TCM runs a long movie that I want to see, I get hesitant about it.

I'm not turned off by bad reviews generally. The main thing that kills my interest in something I wanted to see is when I see clips and the movie looks more like a high-end TV show than something shot cinematically.

I voted "other" because the other reasons seem stupid to me. I mean Pro Critics are a suggestion to me, not the final word. And why would i care about Box Office? None of that money is gong into my pocket.
That said, word of mouth holds more weight with me; and though it may cause me too hold off, it will not necessarily make me skip a film due to loss of interest. Why? I have seen plenty of films with "poor word of mouth" that I enjoyed and would have missed out on had I taken PWoM too seriously. Plus, I have had "POSITIVE Word of Mouth" let me down a few times. i.e. The Original Ghostbuster, "A Beautiful Mind". etc...

Whenever sources I trust don't care for it. If Jeremy Jahns doesn't care for it, it's typically a good indicator that I will skip. I will also say that if Jahns says it requires alcohol, then I'm still interested as it means you just need to turn your brain off for a bit. If Chris Stuckman doesn't review it, then it means he probably disliked it as well. However, if Stuckman does like it, then he's a pretty good gauge that I'll like it as well.

I never used to really care about reviews but nowadays with so much content being thrown at us, if a movie (or streaming series) gets bad reviews, I tend to ignore it. Or if nothing else, it goes to the bottom of my to-watch list.

Sometimes, the studio logo at the end of the trailer is enough.

Movies that consist of mostly female characters that are friends like Waiting to Exhale, Girls Trip, Sisterhood of traveling pants etc though maybe did not have interest in those in the first place.

Re: What kills your interest in a movie that you initially had interest in?
This and the other site (you all know the one) can.
Some are so pro or against certain films. I choose to try and ignore it but initially when reading comments it can be frustrating. I will use Longlegs an example of killing the interest of seeing it in the theater, but not really a good one for the pro or against certain films.
I still have not seen it. Initially I expected to see it in the theater. Now I will wait for streaming.

Well I'd like to see Horizon Part 1 but I want to know if I'll get to see the full story first.

Re: What kills your interest in a movie that you initially had interest in?
To me, it's a consensus of poor reviews. (And I don't trust Rotten Tomatoes as much as Metacritic, which is far more exacting in its aggregation.) And that doesn't mean I'll never see the film; it just means I'll wait until it's streaming for free. This typically works for me. Every once in a while, I'll find a diamond in the rough (a film I DO like despite a consensus of mediocre to poor reviews), but the vast majority of the time it steers me right.

I really can't say it's one single thing.
I never read Rotten Tomatoes, so it's not that.
I'd say it's generally a mix of bad word-of-mouth, bad reviews, reading spoilers, not liking a trailer, or general inertia on my part.

You completely misunderstood the question. What kills your interest after initially being interested? I know you hate those kind of movies

Saban's content is like 99% straight to video and I'm sure you have zero interest in straight to video content. I know you rolled your eyes every time a new Bruce Willis Saban movie was announced.

Only exception was that Michael Keaton movie Knox goes Away, which got a theatrical release.

In retrospect, I probably should have put "Long running times" A few of you pointed that you have no interest in Horizon (as an example) because it's over 3 hours.

A low Rotten Tomatoes score usually indicates that I'd be bored, so that's an automatic skip now that I'm sober (can't drink to liven it up).
Another sign that I won't enjoy the movie/show as much as others might is that it features children as main characters. Side characters are fine, but main characters are not. That's why I gave up on Stranger Things after a few episodes and why I'll likely skip the Jude Law Star Wars show altogether.
