Kneecap (2024, D: Peppiatt) S: Móglaí Bap, Mo Chara, DJ Provaí, Michael Fassbender

Written & Directed By: Rich Peppiatt
Starring: Naoise Ó Cairealláin “Móglaí Bap”, Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh “Mo Chara”, JJ Ó Dochartaigh “Dj Provaí”, Josie Walker, Fionnuala Flaherty, Jessica Reynolds, Adam Best, with Simone Kirby and Michael Fassbender
When fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed ‘low life scum’ Naoise & Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other.
Rapping in their native Irish language, KNEECAP fast become the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights movement to save their mother tongue.
But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries & politicians trying to silence their defiant sound - whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies.
In this fiercely original sex, drugs and hip-hop biopic KNEECAP play themselves, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures.

The trailer I saw a few weeks back looked solid.
I have no previous knowledge of Kneecap as a trio but I hope to catch a screening of this over the coming weekend.

I had this on my watchlist during Sundance but did not get around to it.
This was fantastic. Very impressive for a debut feature. Even more impressive that the real group plays themselves and actually have acting chops.
Learned about the group itself and the suppression of the Irish language.
It looks like Sony put this in a decent amount of theatres. Check it out.

Saw this film on it's initial theatrical release but I thought I had already posted here about it.
Previous to my viewing of Director/Writer Rich Peppiatt's film, I knew absolutely nothing about the Belfast-based Hip Hop group.
By the time the credits started to roll, the film became one of my absolute favorite films of 2024.
All three members of Kneecap play themselves in this biopic and are fantastic. The film's message about the suppression of the Irish language is also incredibly poignant.
Ryan Kernaghan's cinematography in addition to editing from Julian Ulrichs & Chris Gill keep the film fluid, visually interesting and containing energy that hearkened back to films like Trainspotting (1996).
