Re: Shelley Duvall *RIP* 1949 - 2024

Very sad news. For some reason, yesterday, I was just thinking that she'd be cool to meet. Probably thinking about the interview I saw with her from the horror fan guy.

RIP

Bummer. Obviously The Shining. Popeye. Nashville.

She was a gifted actress. Always liked her.

A rep theater near me JUST had a 50th anniversary screening of Nashville, too. I couldn't make it due to work. I should make time to finally see that movie now.

I think Paul Dooley (Wimpy) is the only main cast member of Popeye still alive - and he's 96.

Liked her best in Nashville and 3 Women.

She was not looking good in her later years at all, but still an icon RIP.

Re: Shelley Duvall *RIP* 1949 - 2024

Back in 2020 quarantine, I got on a bit of a '70s Altman kick. Going into it, I wasn't expecting to fall a little "in love" with Shelley, but that was the result of it.

I also remember when we watched "Bernice Bobs Her Hair" in elementary school.

Re: Shelley Duvall *RIP* 1949 - 2024

She had developed some form of mental illness, which was exploited by Dr. Phil on an episode of his show a few years back. Still, her memory remained intact and she could still share stories of her time working in the industry. She did a lengthy interview with Grimm-Life Collective last year while sitting in her SUV.

Anyway, I grew up with Faerie Tale Theater and Mother Goose's Rock 'n' Rhyme. She put a lot of quality children's programming out in the world.

I saw that interview a while back. While it was a good one, I couldn't help but cringe thru-out it with the way the Grimms just fawned all over her non-stop thru-out it.

Indeed. Love that movie.

Spoiler:
BTW, I can't even bring myself to check out the new show after they made all the bandits regular height. Modern Hollywood keeps trumpeting inclusivity, yet they deliberately deprive lead roles from actors with dwarfism? I guess studios are afraid that casting them in a fantasy story would now be labeled as non-PC by a few tedious activist groups. Disney even made the dwarfs in their live-action Snow White a bunch of CG abominations after Peter Dinklage (who has no trouble getting work) complained.

I'm watching Roxanne for the first time ever (odd, right?) and lo and behold, Duvall pops up in the cast. I had no idea.

Re: Shelley Duvall *RIP* 1949 - 2024

Now Popeye and Olive Oil are both gone.

I remember when me and my brother were left to play at the arcade at Harrah's in Reno in the early 80's while my parents played the slot machines there was a TV that had Popeye in constant rotation though I never stuck around to watch it.

Maybe when you ran out of tokens or money that was the entertainment,

For those interested, The Hollywood Reporter did a wonderful article/interview with Shelley Duvall back in 2021.
