The Killer's Game (2024) S: Bautista, Boutella

In the new action-comedy THE KILLER’S GAME, when top hitman Joe Flood (Dave Bautista) is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he decides to take matters into his own hands – by taking a hit out on himself. But when the very hitmen he hired also target his ex-girlfriend (Sofia Boutella), he must fend off an army of assassin colleagues and win back the love of his life before it’s too late.

Worth noting this is directed by stunt man turned director, JJ Perry, who previously directed Day Shift.

The basic ‘switched diagnosis’ hitman plot feels vaguely familiar to me from another action film but I can’t place it (perhaps something more obscure?).
And is Ben Kingsley physically incapable of aging?

I came here to say the same thing about Kingsley aging, it's really noticeable lol. I'm all for stun men directing, (like that other huge revenge flick franchise out there, the name is escaping me right now
) and I don't mind some "similarities", but I definitely want it to feel fresh.

I am shocked to say that does "look" pretty good.
I am pretty sure that plot point has been used before.

Saw this late last night.
Director J.J. Perry's visual aesthetic & energy are clearly present, they both feel a bit flatter compared to his previous effort Day Shift (2022).
Much of that feels in-part to the been-there-done-that plot (based on Author Jay Bonansinga's 1997 novel) and Dave Bautista's lack of charisma in the lead role.
It's a fairly breezy 104-minutes but not one I'd return to any time soon.

T-Mobile offered a $5 ticket to see this last week, but I've had no time to see anything recently. I'll catch it at some point later on. And No, I won't "Seek it out" or pay PVOD prices. Maybe if Vudu or Fanflix offers a cheap sale.
