Sad. He really did a service to the film industry by allowing young talent an opportunity.

Lived a full life, glad he got to see his work being celebrated rather than just overlooked.

His low-budget trash movies were good enough for repeat viewing.
I really enjoyed them over the years.
My favorite was THE UNDEAD.

One of my favorite guilty pleasures of his from the 90s was the Jurassic Park rip-off Carnosaur. It spawned 2 sequels.

RIP! So many great genre movies and they weren’t all no-budget by any means.
I think I have a soft spot for Battle Beyond The Stars which I saw a million times on TV back in the day and the delightfully cheesy Starcrash, the rare movie I saw on MST3K first and had to seek out the original.

Many years ago I was walking around on the exhibit floor at San Diego comic-con. Suddenly there was Roger at a booth. He wasn't a guest of SDCC so I was surprised seeing him and wasn't prepared. Wasn't much of a line so went up to say hello. Can't remember why he was at that booth.

I recommend viewing the Corman's World doc if you've never seen it.
I also noticed the obituary and statement from the family doesn't include his two sons. I know there was a lawsuit about the sale of the library... but damn.

This thread should have dozens of posts, the man was a film legend. I’m having trouble thinking of another person still living who was quite so influential in shaping where movies went - even people like Scorsese and Coppola started in his mentorship. But boy, did he leave us an amazing heap of movies to enjoy.

Corman was the producer of one of my favorite Fatal Attraction rip offs called Body Chemistry. There was 4 movies and they are very hard to find on discs.

I admit to being a pretty late bloomer to Corman. When I first heard his name in the mid-90s, it was courtesy of a series on Showtime called "Roger Corman presents" which were Z-Grade, Troma-esque mini-movies. I thought he directed them all, but it turns out it was all younger filmmakers who were involved with that. As the years passed, I still only associated his name as "Producer Only" for trashy/sleazy product (Via VHS rentals such as Caged Heat & Death Race 2000), but it wasn't until the mid-2000s when I finally checked out his directorial efforts, and dare I say, I was quite blown away by how much of a competent director he turned out to be (House of Usher, Bucket of Blood, Masque of the Red Death, The Intruder)
And to this day, I still don't think I've ever finished his commentary for The Trip because his incredibly relaxing voice keeps knocking me out.
Lastly, let's not forget his two Best Picture cameos:

I knew this was coming, but I'm still devastated by it. I watched Unholy Rollers last night as a tribute, it seemed fitting as I heard the news right after I refereed two roller derby bouts.
I too saw Corman at Comic-Con, but maybe not the same year as TomOpus because he did speak at a panel. Among the many, many entertaining stories he told that afternoon, the one that sticks with me is when he mentioned writing his autobiography, and the publisher selected the title "How I Made a Hundred Movies in Hollywood and Never Lost a Dime". Roger didn't like the title at all, and he called the publisher. He said it wasn't true, that several movies he made indeed lost money. The publisher said, "Yeah, but is the title of every one of your movies an accurate description of what happens in it?"
Roger said, "I thought about it a second, then said, 'OK, you can use that title'"
My personal hero. I'm gonna miss him.

I met him 2019. Was shocked to learn he was in his 90s then. Guy was spry both physically and mentally. Could recall minute details from working Vincent Price in the 60s. True legend.

This is an excellent documentary, and I’d highly recommend pairing it with Mark Hartley’s equally revealing MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED, in which Corman and many of his usual suspects appear. Its about the ‘anything goes’ atmosphere that exploded when American B-movie producers discovered how cheaply they could make movies in the Philippines from the 60’s to the 80’s, and easily more than half of the movies covered in it are Corman productions.
Approproarely enough, I suppose, I was in the process of digging through the Film Masters Blu-rays of Corman’s 50’s and 60’s Film Group productions when this news broke. Considering the shoddy history of these films throughout the entire home video era, and probably much of their theatrical lifespans, too, the restoration work on all of them in these sets is spectacular. The movies are what they are, but hopefully Corman was aware of these treatments before his passing.

I really like his early Science Fiction movies that he directed, but haven't seen many of the later ones. His producing credits are massive, with a bunch of movies I've enjoyed over the years. It's awesome that he made it to 98. I hope he had a great life to go with his impressive legacy.
I just watched Barbarian Queen a couple weeks ago.
