Matlock (CBS) -- S: Kathy Bates, Beau Bridges, Jason Ritter
MATLOCK stars Kathy Bates as the brilliant septuagenarian Madeline "Matty" Matlock, who, after achieving success in her younger years, decides to rejoin the workforce at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases and expose corruption from within. Matty is assigned to Olympia (Skye P. Marshall), a senior attorney and key rainmaker with a thirst for justice, while Olympia's ex-husband, Julian (Jason Ritter), the son of the head of the firm, is intrigued by Matty and her clever skills. Matty works alongside the firm's younger associates - the charismatic Billy (David Del Rio) and the uber ambitious Sarah (Leah Lewis) - as she endeavors to establish herself in her new high-stakes world. MATLOCK is a reimagining of the classic television series of the same name.
MATLOCK stars Kathy Bates as Madeline "Matty" Matlock, Skye P. Marshall as Olympia, Jason Ritter as Julian, David Del Rio as Billy and Leah Lewis as Sarah. Bates, Jennie Snyder Urman, Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen, John Will and Kat Coiro are executive producers. Coiro directed the pilot from a script written by Urman. The series is produced by CBS Studios.

Airing on Thursdays at 9pm this Fall. Being paired with the 2nd season of Elsbeth.
Was suppose to air this season, but was postponed due to the strikes, so it was pushed to the 2024-25 season. The above trailer was from last season's upfront presentation before it got pushed.
Guess this is a show designed for the 60 and older crowd. The trailer was kind of amusing at how meta it was when it poked fun at the original show.

Nearly ten years ago, I accidentally fell in love with the original Matlock. It's a great show. Yes, I'm planning to watch this!

I watched Matlock in a bar last night. The sound wasn't on, but I think I got the gist of it.

Anyone else watch this on Sunday? I assumed it was just some type of reboot of the original. Pleasantly surprised that it's not that. Sadly, no more episodes until mid Oct.

It's interesting, I know they don't want to advertise "the twist" but that's the only thing that would've interested me about this reboot. Hopefully word of mouth goes around.

Not just the twist but the fact that the original show exists in this timeline. I wasn't expecting that either.

It was the most watched debut in 5 years on CBS for something not following the Super Bowl and built on its lead-in (60 Minutes) so it did well either way

In the world if this remake, the original show happened as a TV show. Interns joked at her by playing the theme of the original show with a pic of Andy Griffith on their phone screen.

Apparently Matlock had the highest non-sports rating on CBS in about 5 years.
Kathy Bates recently announced she's retiring from acting whenever Matlock ends.

Maybe the networks need to program more shows like Matlock that might gear towards older audiences to boost the ratings.

The first ep was terrific.
The surprise was also terrific and makes the show much more interesting.
Will be watching and hoping for a really good mystery about who did that thing.
I've only watched a handful of the old show and never cared for it.

I watched this when my DVR accidentally recorded it due to football going OT.
What a great show! I too figured this was just an updated version of the original Matlock with a new version of the Matlock character in this case female. So fun to find out that wasn't what the twist was at all!
Kathy Bates is obviously having fun doing this and firing on all cylinders in every scene. Amazing to see these 70 year olds leading shows like this like it's nothing! Good for her and she deserves all the accolades. I don't know how they will keep this premise going for more than one season but I'll definitely stick around to see how things unfold. Fun to watch her run circles around all the young millennials and Gen Z types in NYC who look at her and just write her off.

Anyone remember her last legal show, Harry's Law? I enjoy anything she does and was disappointed it was canceled.

yup, I think she's better in this role tho.
Hard to say from just watching the pilot episode but the tone is just so fun its hard not to watch so I'll be tuning in.

I like this show, it's just straight manipulation on a few different levels and it's fun.

Just a note on episode 4.
There was a health problem that caused an offscreen character's death. The issue was mold.
They moved a chair award form the wall and the entire wall was covered in thick black mold.
It was in the walls and the chair was wet.
I can smell a spot of mold that's the size of an inch
I can smell it on a nope sponge in the sink.
someone should have smelled that mold and the smell of the wet chair.

Started watching this after week 2 after hearing about the ratings. My wife and I are enjoying it so far. But I don't get it, why even call it Matlock in the first place?

I agree on the mold. Maybe the couple both had sinus issues
I was more concerned about the golfing on the high rise patio smashing bits of glass to rain down on pedestrians all over Midtown. I can't imagine pedestrians walking below would appreciate feeling bits of smashed trophy shards flying into their skull.

Also the danger of glass flying into their own eyeballs
I,like the show and the premise. This stuff needs to get tightened up though

Think I am out, find the weekly recap tedious that they always so the same recap and just a second or so of the last episode. I also find the acting and the cases really bad. Fast forwarded through most of the last episode.
