Scary Movie (2026) S: Faris, Hall, Wayans
The Miramax label at Paramount under new boss Jonathan Glickman is getting back into the Scary Movie business with a new movie that will go into production this year for theatrical release in 2025.
This news was made official before Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation this AM.
Dimension Films, a former genre label of Miramax, originally released the Scary Movie comedies during the early aughts grossing north of $896M through five movies.
The original movie was directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans, and co-written by his brothers Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans as well as Buddy Johnson. The Scream and horror movie comedy satire in the spirit of Airplane! launched Anna Faris into stardom, opening to $42.3M and in July of 2000, and finaling at $157M domestic, and $278M global.

They need to bring back Ferris and King.
It would be funny if they cast Melissa Barrera.

It needs to go back to being an R-Rated raunchy comedy.

It will have to be very different in today's climate. So many of the jokes from the original movies wouldn't fly today.

The Scary Movies were very uneven, and I do not mean in a the only good Star Trek Films are the even number ones way, each film had way too many jokes/sight gags that either went on much too long, or were complete duds. Then of course you have the diminishing quality in general of the sequels.
Some of the gags had to be inside jokes that flew over my head, or were like the super long chicken fight between Peter and the chicken in Family Guy, or the million gallons of vomit being spewed by Brian and / or Stewie in certain Family Guy episodes, bits that were produced/animated just because they could be. No ryhme or reason for such gags. As an example, there is this gag in one of the Scary Movie films where I think a white guy is dribbling a basketball and the scene goes on for, almost literally, forever!
I will admit that some really crass gags, like the bit where I think it was Tori Spelling puts a ghosts penis in her mouth and you see what looks like her giving the ghost a BJ, and then the ghost is all like whoa, you are a freak as she goes on and on and even the ghost wants to get away from her, were somewhat funny, but a little bit of those types of gags go a long way in these types of films so unfortunately bits like this one had a tendency to wear out their welcome surprisingly fast in each film.
I am sure someone has put up a youtube compilation of the best bits from each film that would probably be a better way to revisit these films than watching them from start to finish.
If they really do go through with this, it needs to still have a lot of humor that is not supposed to fly today, because otherwise, what is the point?

Another thing about it all the later entries were PG-13 in theaters and when it came to releasing the dvd it would just be an "Unrated Cut". Movie studios don't really do that much anymore so it should go back to being an R-rated comedy.

The first trailer was attached to Scream 7 and this is going to be wild! So many spoofs shown and it really looks like pretty much the entire cast is back.

That's Felissa Rose from Sleepaway Camp standing behind Anna Faris at 1:38 in the trailer.
I saw the red band trailer in front of Scream 7, but it didn't have that scene with Kim Wayans at the end.

Ah yes, the "I recognize that reference!" alternative to writing jokes, as perfected by Family Guy. That's a pass for me.

Lol, this one is definitely going to piss a bunch of people off.
I keep seeing comments on the trailer about "nice tribute to Leslie Neilsen" - I don't see anything like that in the trailer??

I didn't see any tributes to Neilsen in there.
Trailer fell kinda flat for me, but I'm sure they'll have another 2 or 3 trailers before its actually released.
I think I may have finally grown out of finding dildo visual gags funny.
..heh, dildo gag.

Spoofing an entire genre gets you movies like The Naked Gun and Blazing Saddles.
