Dark Matter (Apple+) -- S: Edgerton, Connelly -- Premieres 5/8/2024

Dark Matter is a sci-fi thriller series based on the blockbuster book by acclaimed, bestselling author Blake Crouch. The nine-episode series features an ensemble cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi and Oakes Fegley. Dark Matter makes its global debut on Apple TV+ on May 8, 2024, premiering with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through June 26.
Hailed as one of the best sci-fi novels of the decade, Dark Matter is a story about the road not taken. The series will follow Jason Dessen (played by Joel Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.
Crouch serves as executive producer, showrunner, and writer alongside executive producers Matt Tolmach and David Manpearl for Matt Tolmach Productions, and Joel Edgerton. Dark Matter is produced for Apple TV+ by Sony Pictures Television.

Apple has a strong track record with the sci-fi stuff, so I'll definitely check this out....though I'd still prefer it to be a continuation of the SyFy series.

Ummm....
This isn't the Dark Matter I was looking for. There's a better Dark Matter that I wanted to see finished.

Could be decent but I get Constellation vibes from the look of this which left a bad taste in my mouth. I like the two leads so I do still plan on checking it out.

The Syfy show Dark Matter was awesome and I always immediately think of that show when Dark Matter is brought up for discussion on a site like this one (lol at BFErik's post), but to Apple's credit, as note by Vipper, they have a pretty good track record when it comes to series like this so I will also check it out.

See, I was just about to post the opposite... Apple has done an amazing job making me want to watch their Sci-Fi series, only to be left disappointed. Constellation and Invasion come to mind... the production and quality is always top notch though. I will give this a shot. I hope it's more Foundation than Constellation.

This will probably be a pass unless I get really bored with nothing to watch.

All of that said, I'm quite tired of the trope of 'there are infinite universes, but our main character just happened to pop into one so similar to their own that it's hard to tell it's even different.' I'll give this a shot, but it will have a high hurdle to clear for me.

Has anyone watched this show yet?
Saw the first 3 episodes, and I'm intrigued. While Im a bit lost on how they're explaining the science of it all, it's interesting enough for me to keep watching.
Plus, Jennifer Connelly is gorgeous.

We watched the first episode and dug it a lot. I'll definitley watch this... I am not a fan of having to wait a week for the new episodes to drop though.

I am almost finished with episode 4 and I find myself pleasantly surprised that I at least think I understand what is going on. I still need to finish Constellation. So far, I think I like this show a bit better than Constellation, maybe even a lot better as I am having a harder time mustering up the enthusiasm to finish that show but I am eager to jump into the next Dark Matter episode.

I wouldn't call him "evil" per se... the theme of the show is "the path not taken". It forces you to think about major (maybe minor) plot points in your own life... "what if I hadn't gone out the night I met my now spouse" type thing.

We wrapped this up last night and I thought it was pretty excellent. I didn't predict where episodes 8 and 9 would go early on and thought it was a great, creative twist. I could easily see a second season but am not sure how many people actually watched this. Apple delivered an overall quality Sci-fi show.

Ripped through this up until the finale and then watched that one as soon as it dropped. Easily one of my favorite shows of the last 5 years.I said "holy shit" out loud multiple times.
I know it's based on a book (and I love that it seems to just be a one-and-done with this cast) but they really painted themselves into some corners and then expertly got out of them multiple times. And the finale was fucking wild.
Great show, highly recommended!

I’m on episode 6 now and I think this season is one of the best scifi shows I’ve ever watched.
Really no way to predict what’s going to happen next.
One question I have that may be answered is why all the doors and the long corridor?
The premise seems to be that whatever one imagines or thinks about is what’s on the other side of the door.
So wouldn’t one door suffice?
Really no way to predict what’s going to happen next.
