The Killers - 20th Anniversary Album, Tour & Vegas Residency Discussion

The Killers are celebrating the 20th Anniversary of their debut release, Hot Fuss with a Double Greatest Hits Album called Rebel Diamonds. It's remastered and it's a really solid collection

TRACKLIST:
JENNY WAS A FRIEND OF MINE
MR. BRIGHTSIDE
ALL THESE THINGS THAT I’VE DONE
SOMEBODY TOLD ME
WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG
READ MY MIND
HUMAN
SPACEMAN
A DUSTLAND FAIRYTALE
BE STILL
RUNAWAYS
THE MAN
CAUTION
MY OWN SOUL’S WARNING
DYING BREED
PRESSURE MACHINE
QUIET TOWN
BOY
YOUR SIDE OF TOWN
SPIRIT

They will be performing a couple of dates on the East Coast and then in Dublin and London.
But what has me excited is that they're doing their first residency in their original home of Las Vegas at the Coliseum at Caesars Palace, after Adele finishes her Residency there. 8 Dates have been announced, but I would assume many more will be added. I got nice, close tickets for the final of the current dates. $250 each (plus fees) for Orchestra-level seats at that venue seems reasonable -- especially compared to Adele tickets.
What's cool is that they will play Hot Fuss in its entirety, and even better, the original 4-man line up will be performing shows together for the first time since 2016.

The Killers Announce ‘Hot Fuss’ 20th Anniversary Residency in Las Vegas

All four members of the group will play their debut LP straight through in August at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace

The Killers will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut LP, Hot Fuss, by playing the album straight through at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in their hometown of Las Vegas. Eight nights are booked between August 14 through August 30. Tickets go on sale January 27.

All four members of the band — singer Brandon Flowers, guitarist Dave Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr — will participate in the shows. This is a rarity since Stoermer stopped touring with the group in 2016 due to hearing issues and burnout from the road, and Keuning stepped away between 2017 and 2020 to spend more time with his family. “Nobody is going to sympathize with me,” Keuning told Rolling Stone in 2021, “but physically and mentally, I could not go to the airport and devote myself to two more years of being gone. I could not do it. I was going crazy.”

Keuning returned to the group later that year, but he’s been MIA for several recent tours. Rhythm guitarist Ted Sablay steps up and plays lead when he’s not there. Keuning and Stoermer remained official members of the group throughout their breaks from the road, though Keuning didn’t play on 2020’s Imploding The Mirage, and Stormer didn’t participate in the sessions for 2021’s Pressure Machine.

The Hot Fuss anniversary gigs in Las Vegas are a great chance for the band to reunite onstage and revisit the songs that launched them. Hot Fuss tunes like “Mr. Brightside,” “Somebody Told Me,” “All Things Things That I’ve Done,” “Smile Like You Mean It,” “Andy, You’re a Star,” and “Jenny Was a Friend of Mine” have been consistent parts of their stage show for the last two decades. It’s hard to imagine they’ll ever be able to play a concert without playing at least “Mr. Brightside,” one of the most beloved rock songs of the 21st century.

The back half of Hot Fuss, however, is packed with rarities that the group has largely ignored in recent years. They haven’t played “On Top” since 2016, “Believe Me Natalie” since 2018,” and “Everything Will Be Alright” since 2005. These shows will also mark the first time they’ve ever gone back and played an album in its entirety.

A month ago, the group released the compilation album Rebel Diamonds, featuring the new song “Spirit.” They’re promoting it with a European tour in the summer and appearances at Boston Calling and the Governors Ball Music Festival.

A new album was in the works last year, but they scrapped it because Flowers no longer felt like making synth-pop records reminiscent of their early work. “Halfway through recording, I realized, ‘I can’t do this,’” Flowers told
The Times. “This is the crisis I’m in. The Killers are my identity, and our songs fill the seats, but I’m more fulfilled making music like [the stark, stripped-down] Pressure Machine. I found a side of myself writing it that was strong. This was the guy I’d been looking for! I’m as proud of Hot Fuss as you can be for something you did when you were 20, but I’m not 20. So I’m thinking about the next phase of my life.”

The Killers Hot Fuss 20th Anniversary tour dates:

Presale was actually very smooth but damn prices were all over the map. The Citi presale were reasonable in relative terms and even the Pit, VIP silver and other VIP options were not extremely outrageous especially by Vegas standards. The standard prices, though, OMG. I think the highest I saw was $1440 which was almost 3x the VIP prices. (All before fees which is another OMG).

Haven't seen them live but will wait for their next tour vs. overpriced Vegas prices.

I looked on Ticketmaster and see what you're saying. VIP seats for $350, 'Standard Tickets' like $1100.
What the hell are "standard tickets"? Like I said, I got front Orchestra seats, on the inside aisle, for $250 each.

They're really good live. Living in Vegas (and being my wife's favorite band) we've had lots of opportunities to see them. I have lost count but I have probably seen them 7 to 10 times. Wish I could have seen them perform Sam's Town at Sam's Town, but I think I've gotten tickets to most of their local, non-private shows here.

That is really a good deal. In the 100 level? Wow. I'm Row P and it was $250 + $67 in fees and the standard 10% Entertainment tax.

I'm happy with the prices but i just stumbled on them. It's off center but not toward the end. As I mentioned earlier prices and seats looked like they were run through a random number generator.

Yeah, I saw them this year at the Bourbon & Beyond Festival in Louisville. We had planned to leave during their set to beat the crowd, as I had low expectations. But they turned out to be fantastic live, and we stayed through the entire show, including encores. Ended up being one of my favorite bands of the weekend!

Very cool : The Killers streamed the miraculous final minute of the Euro Semifinal match where England won to the crowd at the London O2 Arena, then led immediately into Mr. Brightside.

Two things I love. This was all over my family chats Wednesday. Let's hope the O2 has it's TV licensee paid up or the BBC gives them a pass because it would be a huge fine.

Speaking of the Brits and this song : I saw it just was awarded two Guinness World Records, for longest stay on the UK Charts and most weeks on the chart for a group. Super-weird for a 20 year old song, but it took a long time to catch on there and then my God, did it take hold!

It's a good song, maybe great. I loved it when I first heard it 20 years ago. But I always find it curious how the masses pick out their favorite hits. Nothing about this song 20 years ago screamed to me it would be the musical lottery winner.

Re: The Killers - 20th Anniversary Album, Tour & Vegas Residency Discussion

England can be weird. I went to a Rod Stewart concert there in the mid-90s and before he performed at Wembley Stadium, a band called Statue Quo came out. They are hugely popular in the UK, unheard of here. They played their biggest hit, which was, strangely, a cover of John Fogerty's minor hit "Rockin' All Over the World" and everyone rapturously sang along. Also during the Rod Stewart set, his most popular song performed that night was a slow ballad I'd never even heard before (or since) called "Sailing", I think. Like a well-known artist and their favorite song is one we never even hear in the US.

There’s always a difference in international markets. Some songs don’t get the same promotion in all markets. Some songs don’t click the same way. Some bands are drowned out by the current favor of the time. If I had to guess when the Killers debuted the Darkness was probably having their moment over there. It’s not as if the song wasn’t a hit on the second release in 2004. It charted in the top 10. Mr. Brightside probably got its second wind as a club and then a pub song a decade later. The biggest surprise of course is it’s a sad song lyrically.

Status Quo was my first ever concert in 1984 - Their end of the road tour ( retiring after that ) clearly that was a short retirement.

Local heroes take a page from U2 and record a new Vegas-themed song and video ahead of their much-anticipated Residency here. I really like it. Especially the "'Cause I haven't forgotten wherе it is I'm from" line.
Nice to have all four original members back.

Got a chance to see them Wednesday and man do they rock. Great show with great audience and atmosphere. We had a friend that decided to come so I swapped seats with her from lower orchestra to upper so the girls could be together. I think I got the better end because it was short people in the only row in front of me. The band knows the audience is going to sing because the volume is cranked up to 11. They go through Hot Fuss, five minute intermission and then a Rebel Diamonds/Greatest Hit set. Killer performance.

Went to the show last night. Thought it was really great. Thanks for the heads up Kdogg. We both brought Loop Earplugs and needed them. Show was good and tight. Got to hear some Hot Fiss tracks I haven't heard performed for a long time, including Change Your Mind, which is a song I really like a lot.
Had great seats on the far left section, on the inside Isle. Good some nice shots.

And they had some sweet merch as well. I got this shirt, which I liked since it incorporates the band, the Caesars font, the Colosseum venue, the upcoming F1 race (and #24 for the year), and Vegas palms. Just a neat composite. Has all 10 dates represented by little banner flags on the back.

For the longest time I have said that the Foo Fighters would be the last true Rock band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. Now I’m leaning towards thinking that The Killers are five years away from induction. They’re huge, their popularity is enduring and, at least in England, growing, and they’re still at the top of their game.

I picked that one too. It was the best event specific shirt they had.
