Few things are more captivating than a con man in action, especially when the stakes reach deadly heights.
Ripley, written, directed, and executive produced by Academy Award winner Steve Zaillian (The Irishman, The Night Of), will immerse you in a suspense-filled journey set in Italy in the ’60s. Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers, Fleabag) leads the eight-episode limited series as the roguish protagonist Tom Ripley.
Scott’s Tom Ripley is a grifter scraping by in early ’60s New York. He’s hired by a wealthy industrialist to travel to Italy to try to convince the man’s dilettante son, Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn), to return home. Accepting the job is Tom’s first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud, and murder.
In addition to Scott in the title role and Flynn (Lovesick, Emma) as Dickie Greenleaf, the wealthy loafer who Ripley is attempting to lure home, there’s Dakota Fanning (The Equalizer, The First Lady) as Marge Sherwood, Dickie’s girlfriend, who suspects darker motives underlie Tom’s affability.
Ripley premieres April 4 on Netflix.

Interesting. Might be worth it if the reviews are good.
Despite the fantastic cast, I thought The Talented Mr. Ripley was a bit of a let down when i originally watched it. I’m not sure I’ve seen any of the other Ripley movies.

Huge fan of Highsmith’s books and I generally like all the adaptations so far, but I didn’t even know this was happening until today. Promising trailer and Scott is a great choice, I’m in!

There is a show debuting this week whose review embargo lifts at the moment it is available to the public. So if you're wondering why you can't already read, hypothetically, rave reviews for something you're excited about, that just might be why.

Wow, so the series is entirely in B&W? I don't know if I've seen that for a TV series since Bewitched, Twilight Zone and early Gilligan's Island.
Looks cool, but kind of unnecessary given how awesome the film is.

I watched the first episode. I can't stress how absolutely gorgeous it looks in Black & White. Stunning and breathtaking. Nothing on TV looks anything like this.
It moves at a glacial pace, but I'm still intrigued. Scott is very meticulous, and so far doesn't exude the charisma and confidence of Matt Damon's Ripley. But it's still early. I'm going to keep watching.

Have you ever watched the other Ripley adaptations? There's the 1960 film Purple Moon starring Alan Delon. It's on BD from Criterion. There's also Ripley's Game starring John Malkovich as an older version of Ripley. Awesome films.

The cast of the 1999 film is as good as any cast in any movie in history. Damon, Paltrow, Law, Blanchett and PSH at the absolute pinnacle of their star and acting powers. It's the '27 Yankees of acting.

Ironically, I've yet to see the Matt Damon version. There was also one called Ripley Under Ground that came out in 2005 and Ripley was played by Barry Pepper. Haven't seen that one either. I also haven't seen The American Friend, which was directed by Wim Wenders and stars Dennis Hopper as Ripley - that one came out in the late 70s.

Watched the first episode and was completely captivated - I'm in for the season. Aside from the B&W, it reminds me of Better Call Saul. Its pace, camera angles and attention to detail.
I need to revisit some of the older Ripley movies and read the Highsmith series. I've only seen the '99 movie (which was great).

I just got a new LG OLED C3 setup a couple days ago, and I started watching Ripley last night. Holy crap, I kept pausing the episodes to stare at the screen, the cinematography is stunning and the blacks are... black! My mind is blown! This is just Cinema mode with no other calibration:

I can only repeat what others have said. I'm only 2 episodes in and the show is moving slowly but it's so gorgeous to look at that I don't mind. Andrew Scott isn't showing the charm I'd expect from a con man but no doubt the sexy priest will eventually show up.

Didn't realize this at first but having cinematographer Robert Elswit (There Will Be Blood) behind the camera certainly doesn't hurt.
