Bookie (Max) - S: Maniscalco, Dorsey; C: Lorre - premieres 11/30/23
From Emmy(R)-nominated creator Chuck Lorre ("The Big Bang Theory") and Nick Bakay, this darkly funny comedy follows veteran Los Angeles bookie Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco) as the potential legalization of sports gambling in California threatens to upend his business for good. Alongside best friend and former NFL player Ray (Omar J. Dorsey), side-hustling sister Lorraine (Vanessa Ferlito), and reluctantly reformed drug dealer Hector (Jorge Garcia), Danny must contend with his increasingly unstable clients as he tries to settle their debts - all while making plenty of risky bets of his own. Full of relatable mishaps, Bookie chronicles one man's journey to adapt to an ever-changing world as he attempts to charm and con his way to the top.

This actually looks pretty good.
Never heard a word about it.

Is this exclusive to the Max app or does it air on HBO as well?

I'm not a big fan of Chuck Lorre fare or of sitcoms, but I sort of enjoyed the first two episodes of this.

Always enjoyed Nick Bakay's humor and he was the first to do a regular "Bad Beats" type segment on ESPN - like 25-30 years ago. Definitely will check this out.

I enjoyed the first two episodes. In for the season. The short length helps.

Yeah, this was pretty good. Didn’t know who Maniscalco even was, but these two eps were really well done. Funny.

I'll check it out. Mansicalco was a real scumbag in The Irishman.

That one scene in ep. 5 was one of the most hysterical things I’ve seen in a longtime.

It’s well shot. And I really like watching the story of a working class bookie. Love the tone.
It might just be the way my brain works. But I don’t think I ever laughed a single time at anything from Chuck Lorre.

Did anyone else know this is back? I’m on ep 3 of 6. Not sure if more, but S1 was 8, but this lists only 6. Anyway, I think it’s lost one step. Not as funny as last season, but still good and glad to have it back. Manascalco is just hilarious.

Yeah, I didn't like Season 2 nearly as much

We will probably binge it some weekend when football is over. I really liked the first season.
Sad to hear the second is not on par with 1...like so many recently.

I plan to watch S2 at some point, but I barely remember what happened in S1.

I'm still enjoying it, but the episodes seem way too short this season. I noticed one was 18min, including opening and closing credits. Hopefully they will have more than 8 episodes.

I enjoyed S2. Don't remember a lot of S1, so I can't say if this was better or worse. I'm going to assume it was roughly the same.
Yeah, I don't remember S1 feeling this short. Only 8 episodes - and all short.
Not sure if this was shown before, but I guess Bookie is in the same universe as The Kominsky Method (another Chuck Lorre production) - since the final episode we see them at the same bar with the same old/slow waiter as in TKM.
Working for Lorre ensures you have a job for life. So many actors have appeared in so many of his shows.

Just finished it, enjoyed, the 20 min episodes meant I watched 6 last night.

The two leads were on Adam Carolla's show last week saying Season 3 hadn't been picked up yet...and they weren't confident it would be.

It is always in the top 10 on Max but rarely in the top 5, even with new episodes.
