RIP power-pop icon Dwight Twilley

https://pitchfork.com/news/dwight-tw...op-dies-at-72/

Dwight Twilley died October 18, apparently the result of a car crash due to a stroke. He made some great music in the 70s with Phil Seymour (although if I had a preference, I think Seymour's debut solo album is the better than their collaborative work). His name always kinda sounded country though, and between that and his Oklahoma origins, some country stylings came out in the power-pop music he made.

Only song I remember from him, is ""Why You Wanna Break My Heart" done as a cover in the Wayne's World movie (with Tia Carrere singing).

Damn... name is familiar, but I don't recognize a single song of his.

Think it might have been from a movie soundtrack or something. (Not Wayne's World, though, I would remember that.)

I think it's because, from his name, I assumed he was a country artist, but wasn't, and that's why his name stuck in my head.

Unless you're very young you've heard "I'm on Fire" (1975) a zillion times, and "Girls" (1984ish) a billion times. It was all over MTV.

I have Girls on an 80s new-wave compilation cd. It's a pretty cool song. Not familiar with the rest of his catalog but he seemed to be a decent guy. RIP, Dwight.

His "Looking for the Magic" is the song that accompanies the first murders in the film You're Next. Now THAT's an insidious earworm of a song.

Hit youtube and listened to those songs.

I've probably heard "I'm on Fire" before, but it doesn't ring any immediate bells. Sounds kind of familiar, but it's got a kind of 70s rawk thing going on that makes it sound like a lot of songs from that era.

But I think "Girls," is what I remember him from. The video was included on compilation of uncensored music videos called "Red Hot Rock" that I saw on VHS ages ago. But I don't think I've heard the song or seen the video outside of that VHS tape.

The things that stick out the most about that old VHS were The Tube's Fee Waybill's giant cock swinging around in a locker room and Stacy Q's massive bush during some girl-on-girl action in "Screaming in My Pillow."

Luckily, I think Dwight kept his clothes on.
