That was badass! Some serious Alien vibes.

Scotty was awesome!

I knew there’d be a cliffhanger but I’m still argggh, we have to wait a year or so for more! I’m generally glad fewer shows are doing bloated 23 episode seasons any more but I wish this season was longer than 10, it’s the best Trek since DS9 ended.

…one thing I’m quite enjoying about Anson Mount’s performance is his willingness to look scared or paralysed by indecision rather than firmly in control at every second, it really humanises him. This has been such a cracker second season and nearly every character got a moment or episode to shine. Not wild about Carol Kane but a certain engineer’s introduction may mean she won’t stick around long in S3….

How long after season one ended before the 4K UHD BD set was released? Just wanna guesstimate of how long before I can purchase this season.

Really cool episode/finale and quite a cliffhanger.

And we got Scotty. With a very thick Scottish accent no less.

I assume if they are giving us so much James T. Kirk this season, we'll start seeing Gary Mitchell next season.

Now you young whippersnappers know how we old people felt in June 1990 when Best of Both Worlds Part 1 was aired.

Wow, this was some tense TV. So well done. I love how they are slowly introducing iconic characters. Only 3 main characters left: Bones, Sulu and Chekov.

Edit: If I had known about this cliffhanger last week I could have asked these guys what happens next!

As I pointed out before I think this is my favorite series - even over taking TOS which for me a saying something. I think this is what Roddenberry wanted to the original Trek to be if he only the had the budget and time (like 10 episodes a season instead of 26).

The Gorn certainly have changed

I could have done without the Aliens moment.. it was too obvious.

Maybe Chekov will be one the cadets Pike saves when he gets wheelchaired.

Actually, I hope not.

As much as I got a kick out of Scotty coming aboard the Enterprise, I really hope they cool it with the TOS people. I'd rather they let Strange New Worlds be its own thing with its own crew, and not just bringing the TOS gang together. We've already got Spock (canon from "The Menagerie"), Uhura, James Kirk, Sam Kirk, and Christine Chapel aboard the ship. If they bring in Chekov, Sulu, and McCoy, it all sort of becomes a little too cute for my tastes.

Stuff I would like to see in the future... Harry Mudd (done in a way so that he doesn't meet Spock or anyone from TOS who would remember him), Yeoman (Warrant Officer?) Colt, Tholians, Audrid/Emony Dax, more of Sybok, and more of that Angel person.

That was a great episode. Tense through and through.

Could you imagine if they’d ever wanted to do something like that plot in the 60s? I suppose the Spock on the bridge would have been possible, but the scale of the destroyed ship on a tv budget was crazy. Super eerie the computer was still semi-active. As Spock was floating in you could hear things.

It did keep bugging me why they were in the town from Reacher season 1!

Loved seeing Scotty show up. I agree he shouldn’t move to Enterprise though. At least they made him just a Lt.

If the Gorn are this ferocious, it seems like Kirk would have died in 30 seconds during that 60s episode…

I knew it looked familiar. Here’s an article on that small town built so Reacher could be shot during the pandemic.

Upon a second viewing, one thing that didn't sit well with me is when they crashed the saucer section of the Cayuga into the planet.

We go from Spock feverishly trying to find out if Chapel is still alive on the ship. Then they see that sickbay has been destroyed and it's assumed that she had died at that point.

But when Spock goes to the Cayuga and finds Chapel alive, they still go through with the destruction of the saucer section. Since Chapel survived, there could still, potentially, be dozens of people still alive on that ship. But they went through with the plan anyway, and potentially roasted other survivors alive.

All it would have taken would have been a couple of lines of dialog to the effect that Chapel used the central computer to see if there were other lifesigns aboard the ship, or even a plot point where she finds one sign of life only to discover it's that Gorn that was pilfering through the computer.

The Gorn still make no sense to me. There's no chance that those space raptors would evolve to have the technology they display. The writers have done nothing to show that they have any type of real intelligence other than hunting and survival.

Well, they say the Gorn Chapel encountered was putting in Command Codes so that says something... But yeah, I don't like how they've changed the Gorn and have just rehashed the better parts of the "ALIEN" franchise and painted "Star Trek" on it.

I mean shit, to me the Green Lumbering Gorn is ICONIC. This new "Great Value "Xenomorph Flavored" Gorn is not my fave...

Don't get me wrong, I like the episodes with the Alien vibe but it doesn't make sense. Maybe if what we see as gorn were some infiltration species that the real Gorn send in first thin out populations like in The Eternals.

Yeah I was thinking today that it would be cool if the Gorn Leadership are revealed to be the Green ones from the 60's.

That would also explain how Kirk was able to defeat one single handed without modern weapons. Both leaders were sent down to the planet.
