Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
The filmmaking team known as Radio Silence (V/H/S, Southbound, Ready or Not) brought Ghostface back to life with hit sequel Scream back in 2022, and this year they returned to the director’s chairs to continue the saga with Scream VI. The franchise’s sixth installment was another hit at the box office, ensuring that a seventh movie won’t be far behind.
While Scream VII hasn’t yet been officially announced by Paramount and Spyglass, we can confirm that it’s definitely in the works. We’ve also been paying close attention to the recent rumors that Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett won’t be back to direct Scream VII, and that Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) may take over.
How true are those rumors? We’re told Radio Silence was very interested in directing Scream VII but unfortunately they’ve been busy with their upcoming Universal Studios monster movie, which was recently filming under a shroud of secrecy. The mysterious project doesn’t yet have an official plot synopsis at this time, and it doesn’t even have an official title.
It’s likely that with the Radio Silence team focusing on their Universal monster movie, the scheduling ultimately just didn’t work out for them to return for Scream VII.
As for the Christopher Landon rumors, Bloody Disgusting has heard that Landon has indeed been in talks to direct Scream VII, and we’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
The ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have halted productions across Hollywood at this time, so it may be a while before production on Scream VII actually gets underway.
Stay tuned…

I like Landon's films for the most part, so he'd be a welcome addition to giving a go at the franchise.

The Landon news seems to be official now as Spyglass has hired him to direct.
But, no writer is attached for obvious reasons.

I anticipate that the "7" on the poster will be a knife slash mark (possibly dripping with blood)

Sure. It’s just funny to think that not that long ago there was still just the original 3. Nothing for 20 years and then four sequels one after the other.

Melissa Barrera appears to have been fired from the movie for political commentary

That's unfortunate. I enjoyed her character.

They were really building up something with that character, so it's a shame to see her dropped. Does this mean we can bring back Neve Campbell? There seems to be some extra money available in the actors budget now.

Stupid all around.
This was likely to start filming early next year before Jenna Ortega has to start Season 2 of Wednesday. That doesn't seem like it'll happen now.

Filmmaker Christopher Landon, who is slated to take over directing duties on “Scream VII” after Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett stepped away after steering the franchise revival, offered a statement on Barrera’s exit on Tuesday afternoon.
“Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make,” Landon wrote.

I won't post Spyglass' statement because of its political nature addressing the firing. Don't want to turn this into a political thread. This has turned into a mess.

This is bullshit. To my surprise, I actually liked Screams 5 and 6, and now they've done something that could sink the whole franchise.

I love her but the last two films were shit. If they want Neve back they're gonna have to pay for it. $$$

I think Melissa Barrera is cute, but the character she portrayed is so unmemorable that I can't even remember her name. In fact, that's how I'd describe all the new characters. So no big loss, really.

Might be the best thing to happen to this series. It's needs a better final girl. The ghost of CG Billy was ridiculous. The change to "New York" was about as believable as Jason Takes Manhattan. Inject new blood.

If folks really want to see her shine then they should watch her in Vida on Starz (it might be on HULU now), because you get 3 seasons of her being hot as hell.

re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
EXCLUSIVE: Jenna Ortega, who was a lynchpin draw in getting Scream VI to the horror franchise’s best opening grosses ever at $44.4M stateside, $67M global, isn’t expected to return for Scream VII, we hear from sources.
This has nothing to do with the fallout from Melissa Barrera‘s firing yesterday by Spyglass Media over that actress’ social media repostings on the Hamas-Israel conflict; nor does it have to do with the actress asking for an end to her Scream contract. Ortega and Barrera played sisters in 2022’s Scream and this year’s Scream VI respectively as Tara and Sam Carpenter.
We understand that Ortega’s exit from the next Scream was discussed before the actors strike. A script for Scream VII is not ready yet, and the Primetime Emmy nominee has to head to Ireland in April to shoot the second season of Netflix’s Wednesday which will go into the summer. Additionally, Beetlejuice post SAG-AFTRA strike had a few extra days of shooting in order to meet its Labor Day 2024 theatrical release.

I hate that companies are so afraid of backlash, that they can't separate between their business and the actor's personal opinion. I'd say there is a line where a company has to take a stance, but I don't think Barrera crossed that line. She clearly doesn't know the meaning of the words she is using, but that's about it, wether you agree with her basic opinion or not.

I suppose that the thing Barrera posted that ultimately got her fired was this:
Which could be interpreted as being antisemitic.
"I have been actively looking for videos and information about the Palestinian side for the last 2 weeks or so, following accounts etc. Why? Because Western media only shows the other side. Why they do that, I will let you deduce for yourself."

Apparently Barrera and Ortega were not even signed on for Scream 7 yet. So you can't really call it a "Firing" when she wasn't even under contract. This new story says they are going to attempt a new script.
