Re: Paul Reubens aka Pee Wee Herman dead at 70

Damn. I didn’t realize he was 70.

I was never a Pee Wee Herman fan but Reubens seemed like a genuinely nice guy. I’m sad to see this news.

He also took a crazy amount of undeserved shit for the adult theater incident.

Re: Paul Reubens aka Pee Wee Herman dead at 70

I was not into his "Pee Wee Herman" alter ego. Never watched his children's shows. But, I recall me and my sister did watch Pee Wee's Big Adventure on VHS when it came out. Don't recall anything about it, but I guess it was okay. I see he was a long-time working actor and voice over person and worked up until his passing. That's good the "incident" didn't kill his career.

Ditto what DJariya said. I wasn't a big fan of his Pee Wee character, although I did watch quite a bit of that stuff. I enjoyed seeing him pop up in other movies or TV shows, and can appreciate his ability to create an icon that will likely outlast him (much like Ernest). Count me in as surprised that he was 70.

Re: Paul Reubens aka Pee Wee Herman dead at 70

Damn that's awful. I loved Pee Wee's Playhouse, and most other things I've ever seen Paul Reubens in. And yes, he seemed like a really decent person (notwithstanding 'the incident'). Rest in peace.

He's in Cheech & Chong's "Next Movie" and plays a motel clerk? It's still PeeWee Herman, but he's a prick in that film, not lovable or a spaz. That film came out in 1980, so it was years before his own film and tv show.

This sucks. I loved Pee Wee's Big Adventure, even if I never could get into any of his other stuff. But his death scene in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie is legendary.

Re: Paul Reubens aka Pee Wee Herman dead at 70

There was a short-lived game show that Reubens hosted based on the You Don't Know Jack PC games. He hyped up the beginning of one episode by saying "Someone will drive away in this brand new car!". No second mention of the car throughout the whole episode. Until after the credits, a scene showed him driving away in it, saying "I didn't say WHO would drive away in the car."

Re: Paul Reubens aka Pee Wee Herman dead at 70

Damn sad.

I was always a big fan of the kooky humor on Pee Wee's Playhouse and Big Adventure was lots of fun.

He could have been even bigger than he was, but some people had to be difficult about it.

That sucks. He was a true original. The good ones always seem to go too soon.

Loved Pee-wee. Have seen Pee-wee's Big Adventure more times than I can count. Maybe in my top 10 comedies. That and Playhouse were staples of my childhood. Also enjoyed him in Mystery Men, Blow, Murphy Brown, etc.

R.I.P. to a legend.

I loved Pee Wee's Playhouse. From the original HBO Special to the Saturday morning children's show. And both films. He's the father of Oswald Cobblepot in Batman Returns. He's the voice of the ship in Flight of the Navigator. He's the original voice of the pilot in Star Tours.

RIP

Damn that sucks. Really wished he was able to make a career resurgence. He was great in the movie Blow.

I liked Pee Wee as a kid and recognize that character as being iconic but can’t say I was a big fan as an adult. Still sad though. RIP.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure is one of my top 5 comedies. It's one of those rare movies that gets funnier the more times you see it. The Tim Burton direction & Danny Elfman score, everything about that film is brilliant.

I loved his original HBO special and watched it countless times with my siblings. Also love the movies. RIP Paul.

He was also Penguin's father in Batman Returns and Lock in Nightmare Before Christmas.

Hopefully they set up a nice memorial for him in the basement of the Alamo.

Do you remember what he said when the police escorted him out of the theater?

Spoiler:
"I'm not going to come in here anymore".

I never watched his show, but I was just past the age that would have been interested in it when it first came out. I've never seen the movie. Not sure if it would be watchable now out of curiousity, or would it feel too dated now.

This makes me sad. Pee-Wee's Playhouse was such a weird and wonderful part of my childhood. Also didn't realize Reubens was 70... which is still too soon.
