RIP MTV News 1987-2023

The remaining staff was laid off, so the entire division was closed.

And if course, it was the home to his guy, who just turned 78

Some of you are probably like....They still existed?

End of an era. I remember when I was in college, they did round the clock breaking news when Madonna gave birth to his 1st kid. It was total overkill from what I recall. They had reporters live on the scene.

Count me in... no clue they still had a news department.

Never liked Kurt Loder from day 1.

He always did have a strong "Narc" type vibe to him.

Happened to have played hooky the day kurt cobain killed himself. Watched the same 45 minutes of news coverage from them a dozen times.

Gotta admit, fond memories of hearing the Peace Sells bass riff. I actually liked Loder, as a teen it always felt like it was serious when he came on the screen.

I gotta think that MTV News was just providing some web based content for the MTV site: https://www.mtv.com/news I can't imagine that they still have news reports on the actual channel. At least, I've never seen it come on during The Challenge in recent memory.

Was only vaguely aware of that song back then (big fan of it and the album now) and never put two and two together that that was the intro. Thanks.

He always gave the vibe of someone's creepy, uninvited hipster uncle who always tried to hang around with people half his age.

Re: RIP MTV News 1987-2023

They don't have time to air MTV News when they are busy airing 24 hours of Ridiculousness.

In the early 2000's they still had a presence on TV with Gideon Yago, Suchin Pak, and Iann Robinson the metal guy.

Re: RIP MTV News 1987-2023

I remembered cracking up at Loder calling Jewel out in an interview for her misuse of the word "casualty" in one of her poems. Watching it on YouTube recently, he just came off like a dick.

Everyone forgets John Norris. I always felt disappointed when MTV News came on with him instead of one of the others.

Re: RIP MTV News 1987-2023

Martha Quinn was on probably in the early 80's when I did not have MTV but she was gone in the mid to late 80's when I started watching.

Serena Altschul was my fav of that news team. It was a trip to see her on ABC news at like 5 in the morning sometime during the 2000s.
