What a great list that is! Don't really know much about The Spinners but I would be delighted with literally everyone else if they were inducted
But especially happy about Warren Zevon and Joy Division /New Order.

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2023

If Iron Maiden gets in they should have Eddie accept the award and then moon the audience for taking so long. Not that I think they have a chance in hell of getting in.

My votes:
Iron Maiden
The White Stripes
Willie Nelson

Not a fan but should be in already:
Kate Bush
Joy Division/New Order

It's essentially the same band, New Order was started after Joy Division's lead vocalist died by suicide. It's not unlike the changes in Pink Floyd, which was inducted as one band.

Basically the same band.

JD changed its name to NO when the singer died. The members made a pact beforehand that if any JD member ever left, the remaining members would change the name.

The Meters are never getting in, are they? They were on consideration list a few years back, and then nothing after that. Their influence was solidified before a bunch of these nominees were even born, and all but one of the members are still alive.

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2023

Missy Elliot?

I visited Cleveland in 2019 and went to the RnR Hall of Fame. I'm sorry, no one will ever be able to make a valid argument to allow artists who are firmly NOT part of the Rock N Roll genre to be inducted into the Rock N Roll HoF. If you're going to let musicians of ANY genre in, just rename the place the Music Hall of Fame.

Otherwise, letting R&B and rap artists in is Woke 101. Can't wait to be accused of being a racist by some posters.

For the record: Eminem? Nope, shouldn't ever be inducted either. Black artists who actually were/are part of the rock genre, IE Jimi Hendrix, Prince, and Chuck Berry? Absolutely deserve to be there

Vanilla Ice, Kriss Kross, Milli Vanilli and MC Hammer belong in before Missy Elliott.

Cyndi Lauper
George Michael

Soundgarden
The White Stripes
Warren Zevon

All the above deserve recognition, is Wham in the HOF? / If so Tom Petty should be inducted individually as well

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2023

No, Wham! is not in. If you look at the top solo(-ish) artists of the '80s (MJ, Prince, Madonna, Springsteen, Whitney Houston) they're all in except for George Michael who probably belongs in that list. He's actually more rock and roll then Whitney Houston. Wham! was mostly just George Michael anyway. There's not too much difference between Tom Petty with the Heartbreakers and his solo album since he used some members of the Heartbreakers on his solo albums also. The bulk of his work was with the Heartbreakers where I think it's probably the opposite for George Michael.

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2023

I'm surprised Iron Maiden is listed after Bruce's bashing of the HoF in the past.

My votes (I'm limiting it to 5):
Kate Bush
Iron Maiden
Joy Division/New Order
George Michael

Warren Zevon

Can a multiple choice poll be added to the thread at this point?

I would geuinely be shocked if she is not inducted in the next few years.

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2023

When do they start nominating some acts that really deserve to be in there like Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, NSync, and Spice Girls?

Honestly amazed the Spinners, Warren Zevon, and Willie Nelson weren't already inducted. So they've got my vote.

Of the others, maybe Soundgarden and Joy Division. Though I love her music, I can't help but feel the Kate Bush nod is only due to the recent use of "Running Up That Hill" on Stranger Things.

Sure, but Missy Elliott is nothing special.

Are Flo Rida and Pitbull going to be inducted in 20 years?

She may not be in the Dre / Jay Z / Tupac stratosphere, but she's no slouch. Billboard ranked her as the #19 all-time rap artist and Rolling Stone picked Get Ur Freak On as the #38 all-time rap song.
And currently there are no female rap acts in the R&R HoF. Representation is important to the organization.

She was nominated last year also before the Stranger Things season had come out. It may have helped kept her on the ballot this year, but she was already a contender without ST.

Salt-N-Pepa should be in before Missy Elliott if the Hall needs to meet a female rap quota.

They typically vote in one R&B/Rap type artist a year. Missy is certainly deserving. Her debut is ranked as one of the top 100 greatest albums of all time according to RS. (Although I would prefer Tribe Called Quest gets in)
