This is the only site that this happens. Just shows text that someone wrote, then blank space.

Yup. YouTube videos don't show up on Safari. Also the quick reply section repeatedly shrinks and doesn't work unless you restart as david says.

This is a free site and obviously these bugs aren't priority for the developers here to fix, so I'm not annoyed by it. They only have so much paid manpower.

This has been happening for months and nothing has been done about it unfortunately.

Same thing for me on iPad in Chrome. No video showing up, restart does not fix it.

It's an odd, difficult to reproduce bug specifically with iOS Safari. Where are you accessing the site from and are you on mobile or desktop skin?

Can't imagine using the mobile skin on an iPad... the mobile UI isn't useful on a larger screen.

Sucks that people are being forced to use the mobile site.

Mobile skin on anything but a phone looks absolutely terrible. Usually once each session, DVDTalk tries to switch me over to the mobile skin on my Android tablet, I have to switch it back immediately, I don't come here on my phone specifically because of the mobile look/feel, guess I'm just too used to the full site on my home computer and tablet, the mobile skin is like an alien landscape.

The thing is... with almost any site (at least ones we own), tablet traffic is very low and after a peak a few years ago, has actually dropped a bit. So the tablet/desktop combo is so low that it doesn't make sense to invest workhours into it, so say the beancounters

It's just yet another one of the things that's not a problem on any site but this one. I get that this site is just trying to limp along as untouched as possible, it's just sad.

It's not just tablets. It's the desktop skin on desktop browsers too. This was mentioned in the PHP thread. Same issue. Just confirmed it using the same example threads illustrated in this thread, using macOS/Safari/desktop skin.

It makes me wonder what else has been deemed not worthy of doing correctly due to the beancounters….

Video and the social media embeds not showing up in certain situations could be mitigated in the implementation with a separate <div> containing a link to the url of the video or social media post above or below the embed, so that even if the embed doesn't show up for some users in some situations, the link to the original content would always be there. In fact, doing a quick inspection on a twitter embed, it looks like such a <div> already exists above the embed...it's just set hidden for some reason (display: none):


Why not just change the forum software to display that <div>? That would at least help the situation.

Thanks, I'll forward to our tech team. I know we've had issues with the Facebook API in the past and I'm wondering if that had an interaction with this as it got turned off and on

I have to refresh the site using chrome on my iPad if I want to see the videos in a post.

Obviously they don't have the time, money or manpower to fix the glitch with tablets. So it is what it is.

Seems pretty hit and miss on my iPad. Sometimes the videos load and sometimes I get those blank spaces.

I knew there would be a thread on this issue, using desktop version on iPad pro Safari OS does not allow me to post comments, or replies. Quite frustrating because I am on my tablet all the time when I am home.

Sounds like the issue is not going to be resolved anytime soon, love the community here but this issue has limited my interactions with fellow DVD Talkers.
