Pennywise: The story of IT (2021) -- 2 hour documentary on the making of ABC horror miniseries
This in-depth look at the 1990 mini-series based on Stephen King's iconic novel features interviews with many of the cult classic's key players, including director Tommy Lee Wallace and cast members Seth Green, Richard Thomas, and Tim Curry, who portrayed the notorious monster clown, Pennywise. On VOD and streaming exclusively on Screambox July 26.
This is from the producers of the massive Hellraiser documentary that's on the Arrow Hellraiser BD set. I had no idea this documentary existed until I came across a tweet promoting it tonight. Premieres on Screambox and VOD on Tuesday. Looks like it's a $5 rental or $13 purchase.
Vudu has it up already

Weird. I like the miniseries, just not sure I like it THAT much to the point I want to see this.

It's a damn good mini series, and ground-breaking. Of course a lot of its thunder has been stolen in recent years by the movie version.
Poor Tim Curry. I feel so sad whenever I see him in his chair. And where is Annette O'Toole? I see her post on Twitter sometimes and she still looks great.

I remember when they used to put stuff like this on the DVD as a "special feature".

I rented this off Amazon for $4.99 for HD.
The official running time is 126 minutes. But, I kind of want to re-watch the old miniseries again before I see this documentary. I honestly haven't seen it since it originally aired 30+ years ago.
Oh wow HBO Max has the miniseries. Did a Roku find where the movie is check. I’ll rewatch it first on there.

I just finished a re-watch of IT 1990 on HBO Max before I started watching this documentary that I rented weeks ago. I still have 6 days left to watch it and plan to today. It took me a couple of days to finish IT since it's a 3 hour movie/miniseries.
I had not seen it since it originally aired on TV 32 years ago. I never rented or bought the DVDs. It's dated as hell, but for a product of it's time, it's pretty good for the most part and creepy for network TV and I think it was groundbreaking for the genre. However, even 32 years later, the ending still sucks how the group managed to take out Pennywise. That ending completely fell flat for me.
Did anyone rent this documentary?

This is a really good documentary. If you’re a fan of the original miniseries, this is totally worth watching. They got almost everyone involved with the series who isn’t deceased. Even Tim Curry is interviewed and he speaks pretty well post stroke. They also talked about the development of the Pennywise costume. Annette O’Toole didn’t participate among the adult losers club who is still alive. They cover everything from writing the script, casting, locations and even dealing with network standards and practices. This film is like something from the good old days of Making Of Documentaries. And there is a lot of footage from the series and a lot of behind the scenes photos and videos.

If I remember correctly, wasn't the second part of the tv mini-series when they grow up a letdown like the movie remakes? I haven't seen the old It in years and years.

Yes part 2 is when they are adults. Also, the original teleplay writer Lawrence Cohen left the series after writing the first part because he had other projects. So Tommy Lee Wallace, who directed the series, had to write the script for part 2 and he even admitted in the film it was a rushed job.
They originally wanted to do this as an 8 to 10 part limited series and George Romero was going to direct. But when ABC said no and it was only going to be a 2 nighter, Romero dropped out.

The miniseries was on HBO Max late last year, but I guess it's gone now. I posted about it in August from above. Then I watched the documentary and learned so much.

You can still watch it and learn to appreciate what went into producing such an elaborate miniseries back in the day. It was a big venture for the time. It's worth the time investment to finish it.

It is sad, but I also love seeing Tim Curry as he is now.
It really is a great documentary from what I have seen, I think about half of it, and feels more informative than many docs.
