Decent movie overall. I really liked Hathaway and Strong's performances. The kid was OK. I don't feel the Trump stuff (though brief) was needed.
They'll try and push this for awards season, but I don't think it's really a contender.

I agree with that. It's a nice little autobiographical film, but something feels missing or under-explored. Which is odd because James Gray is an incredibly thoughtful filmmaker. Give a listen to his interviews some time, like the one he gave to the Big Picture last week. Strong-minded and downright philosophical. Seemed to me, Gray churned out some poignant stories from his family's past, laced it all with warmed-over racial themes, and called it good enough. Felt like it should have been more challenging.

I thought of the song by The Clash and thought maybe it was a biopic of the band or Strummer.
I liked it and it was not a masterpiece but still worth watching and maybe if you like the Fabelmanns kind of similar with another Jewish family.
I had no idea Jeremy Strong played the dad until the credits but he was great in this.
John Diehl or Zito from Miami Vice played Fred Trump
