my wife and kid want to see it. I've watched a couple of the shorts. It's... cute. I think they can go see it themselves, though.

A friend of mine really wants me to see this. He says it’s amazing. Closest theater showing this is an AMC about 20 to 25 minutes away with no traffic.

For some reason, stories featuring anthropomorphized objects fill me with unbearable sadness. I don't know if something traumatized me as a kid, but just seeing the trailer for this upset me so much, I can't imagine voluntarily watching it. Weird, but true.

Just a really well done, beautiful, little film. Packs a lot of emotion and humor into its small run time.

This small scale, family-friendly movie feels perfect for an Apple TV + or Netflix acquisition. Could have been a big streaming hit. Kind of a shame it went to theaters and tanked instead.

Close to $3m so far in less than 600 theatres is a success for A24.

Are they planning a slow roll-out for it. Because I am sure that Apple would have paid well above $3M for rights to the movie.

Yes, it has been a slow rollout and it has been doing very well for the type of film.

This was an acquisition by A24. So if someone like Apple was really interested they could've outbid them for the distribution rights.

Just caught a matinee today. I thought it was delightful. Such a simple, yet profound movie. I walked out feeling happy. Great voice performances by Jenny Slate and Isabella Rossellini as the grandma. I really liked the Lesley Stahl interview part as well.

If this is playing near you and you have 90 minutes, I recommend it. If any of you have young children, I think this is worth taking them to see it.

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2022)

Started going through the Oscar noms starting with animation. Pinocchio was my favorite (and it is still pretty certain to win) but came across this weird, sad, touching, flick and it's now one of my favorite animated flicks I've seen.

Anyone else catch this one?

I pretty much have stopped blind buys but I might make an exception and snag the 4K.

How could you not fall in love with this film? This was absolutely marvelous. Such a heartwarming, endearing little movie that exudes heart and beauty. I teared. I won’t lie. If you don’t, you’re heartless. 😜

What’s its Oscar chances? I know Pinocchio has won some awards already. Haven’t seen it, but Marcel is absolutely in my top 5 of 2022.

But, I still don’t understand these directors and their preferred 4:3 ratio. I’m sure they gots reasons, but I dunno.

Yeah, I really like the 4:3 ratio for its composition, the problem is, theatre screens and vertical TV aren't designed to play them at the size they should be. Seeing stuff like The Whale at the cinema reminds me of when you put a an early 90s non-anamorphic widescreen DVD on your 16:9 TV, and the letter-box image sits on the middle of the screen surrounded by black on all four sides. I'd love to go to the movies and see 4:3 on a super tall screen that could accommodate it without looking like the sides had been looped off.

I knew it wasn't as extreme as 4:3. I looked it up, and it's actually 1.55:1.

This! Completely and utterly this.

I watched it on the plane ride home today. Such a touching little story.

When Marcel is mourning his grandmother, and the tears were falling on the spiders… I teared up too.
