I was going though my Target,Wal-Mart,Circuit City and Best Buy ads for "The Transformers:The Movie" on DVD.I do not find listed anywhere on sale in any of the Sunday ads!!But if I want to buy MI:2,Titan A.E or other big "Blockbuster"(mainstream crap) DVD on sale it's no problem!!I wish the stores like best buy and circuit city would stop putting so much attention to these mainstream titles!!Heck Titan A.E, MI:2, The Perfect Storm,Gladiator,Scary Movie and all the other mainstream titles are too easy to find!!
How about the stores start working on promoting lesser known titles like "Transformers:The Movie","Bad Moon"(thank you CC!!),Mel Gibson's "The Bounty" and "Solar Force". The list of these kinds of movies so why do not the stores start putting them on sale??Or do they love to lose customers just because they do not carry these other titles ??I do not mind buying DVD's online all the time, it's just miss going to B&M stores to actually go find them!!
Does anyone else feel this way with the way the stores promote their DVD with only mainstream movie garbage all the time?

Mainstream movie garbage???
The stores are going to promote the big movies every time and list them at low prices upon their release....sure they do not make money on these loss leaders but they pull customers into the store which is the main goal!!! I truly do not believe that Transformers: The Movie is going to be interesting to most people shopping at say Best Buy or Circuit City!!! I did not even realize this title was being released until this thread began on dvdtalk. We all have our own personal taste in movies....I really like The Philadelphia Experiment. Was this in ads everywhere??? Not at all....and I did not really expect it to be. It just is not a movie that attracts a large audience as I am sure the same can be said for Transformers.

I'm sorry parsec for calling mainstream blockbusters" garbage"!! Gladiator was recycled from movies such as Braveheart,Spartucus and Ben-Hur to name a few movies so it has been done before!!
It's just I'm one of the many people in my area tried of mainstream movies and long for the indie, foreign and docemtary movies at my local mulitplex!!
Here's a letter I sent my local paper regarding this matter with the kind of movies I would love to see here where I live!!
Editor,
The movie patrons in our area lack a choice of independent and foreign films . If you look
online at websites such as the Internet Movie Database and other search engines you will be
discover that more than 2-3 movies comes out each week!! In reality it is more like 8-9 new
titles coming out to movie houses around the country. The movie theaters are losing out on an
audience hungry for something more than Hollywood eye candy!!
Our local movie theaters all show movies. The problem is they only show mainstream movies .
That means we get all the hyped movies(such as Get Carter, Urban Legends: Final Cut, and
Digimon: The Movie) And only the stuff the big studios wants us to see. If you a movie goer
and want to see any independent & foreign movies, you must drive all the way to the Bay Area
or Sacramento. Perhaps it’s time the local movie houses brought us the independent & foreign
films. The most recent example of Vacaville having independent movies is last November
when the downtown movie theater showed a independent film for one week only! !To make
matters worse, they choose one of the busiest times of the year for many people!!By the way
,they did not even show a single foreign film at this time!
In closing Vacaville and Fairfield have more than enough people to support the independent and
foreign movies. The more people come to our area , the more the need for diversity in our local
movie theaters. This problem is not going to go away soon. In fact I’ll bet it will only get worse
as more and more people get tired of all the same old mainstream Hollywood eye candy
movies!!

Aaron - why don't you ask your parents for gift certificates for Christmas to buy.com or Best Buy. That would take the decision about what to get for you out of their hands and into yours! Then you wouldn't have to worry about them not knowing DVD specs etc.

The ads and sale prices you see listed in the circulars are bought & paid for by the studios.
Best Buy or whoever doesn't decide "who shall we promote this week?"
Rather, the studios pay a huge amount of co-op advertising dollars in order to be featured in the circular and put on sale & positioned in the store.
You would be amazed at how much this costs the studios (think TENS of thousands of dollars.)
This is why you don;t see smaller titles listed. the studios simply do not have the money to advertise them in the major chains.
All this co-op $$ also is what allows the stores to sell these DVDs below cost. It subsidizes their sale prices.
It is not uncommon for retailers to make up their margin from money from record compaies, studios etc.
Every time you see a CD in a listening station at Samm Goody or Borders or wherever, know that the retailer received several thousands of dollars just to put it up there.
Even being placed on a rack at the front of the store gets thousands. Most stores nowadays sell every inch of their real estate.
