Monte Hellman passes away at 91
I was a big fan of his. Plus I love seeing Warren Oates pop up in stuff.

Not a large filmography, but he sure did garner a huge amount of respect from other filmmakers. I've been meaning to re-visit China 9, Liberty 7 in recent times. The only time I saw it was on the Encore Westerns channel. Unfortunately, that copy they showed appeared to have it's camera mounted to a live-operating cement drill.

Cockfighter is sorely missed on Blu Ray. He was such a low key guy. He made some great films, but never got much credit. Also I had no idea he was as old as he was. I would have guessed he was at least 10-12 years younger. RIP.

Only knew him from Two Lane Black Top and helping Tarantino get Reservoir Dogs off the ground.
Thats enough for anyone to know he was a legend.

Recently watched my Criterion Hellman western double feature. Ride the Whirlwind was good, but I really loved The Shooting.
