Vote for your favorite Best Picture nominee. (2021 Oscars)
Welcome to the 12th annual DVDTalk Best Picture Oscar Poll!
Once again let's see how far apart we are from the Oscar voters. Keep in mind that this is a poll for our favorite movies and not an attempt to predict the actual Oscar winner.
I will keep this poll open for a year since most of us are only streaming these days. In fact, it's hard for me to believe that I haven't seen a movie in a theater since 1917.
Previous DVDTalk poll winners and (Oscar winners):
2020: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (Parasite)
2019: BlacKkKlansman (Green Book)
2018: The Shape of Water (The Shape of Water)
2017: Hell or High Water (Moonlight)
2016: Mad Max: Fury Road (Spotlight)
2015: The Grand Budapest Hotel (Birdman)
2014: Gravity (12 Years A Slave)
2013: Django Unchained (Argo)
2012: Tree Of Life (The Artist)
2011: The Social Network (The King's Speech)
2010: Inglorious Basterds (The Hurt Locker)

Promising Young Woman. I think Nomadland will win.
I’ve seen them all except for The Father.

Last year was a surprising bright spot for BP nominees. I loved almost every one of them (yeah, I’m looking at you, Joker. You sucked!). I still think OUaTiH was the best picture though.
This year I’ve only seen two of the nominees so far and have only barely heard of a few. As it stands now I’m pulling for The Trial of the Chicago 7 to win.
That may change when I see more of the nominees but I’ll be honest, very few of those movies interest me and I may not make it through the whole list like I have in previous years.

It was a tough choice between Judas and the Black Messiah and Trial of the Chicago 7, but I chose the former. I also think Nomadland will win. I liked it, but I liked Judas more.

I've only seen one of them (Mank), and I've only heard of one other (The Sound of Metal).
I have no idea what the others are about, who's in them, etc - I know literally nothing about them and hadn't even seen the titles before.
Not the best year for the Academy Awards. A lot of movies were held back last year.

I've watched a ton of movies this year as with any year, and yet this time... I've seen absolutely none of the nominations, which is a first for me.

I haven't seen any of these and tbh, outside of Promising Young Woman, not much interest.

Will wait until I see a couple more movies before I vote. Right now I just hope Mank loses.

You're right. Last year's Oscars had the best selection of nominees since I was a teenager. Looking at this year's lackluster line-up reminded me of how exciting last year was.

Thought I’d better give this a bump.
I still have 2 more to see before I vote.

Man, it is such a lackluster list of movies. I don't know, maybe I would love Minari. But there is nothing that I have seen from this list that really grabs me. Some years, it's trying to decide between a bunch of favorites, like picking your favorite child. This year, it's more like 'Do I really have to pick one of these?'. Not that the movies aren't good, but unlike last year, there's nothing here I love.

I still have to watch The Father and Judas and the Black Messiah (with those three names it sound super religious). Currently I have one personal favorite, but I think Nomadland will win, I was bored by that one, but the acting was superb.

"Minari", it's better than "Parasite".

Re: Vote for your favorite Best Picture nominee. (2021 Oscars)
After further review, I'm probably being a little unfair to "Parasite". I love Bong Joon-Ho and I've seen all his films since "Barking Dogs Never Bite". But I think it was a bit overrated because it seemed to me that Hollywood and all the critic all had an epiphany (20 years too late) and suddenly realized that there were great Korean films. But it's tough to compare since it's an entirely different film than "Minari", which is far more than just a run of the mill feelgood movie. So, let me amend my earlier statement and say I believe that "Minari" is just as good as Parasite.
On one hand, you'd think two Korean (or Korean American) films won't win back to back. But on the other hand, there's probably not a more "American" film (immigrant family moves to the US to chase the American Dream), and it should appeal to both the general public and members of the Academy. And holy mackerel, it even has acting nominations! Another (slow) step forward form the old white men in Hollywood.

Hey, I’m not saying it couldn’t, I’m open. Always open. But, Parasite blew me away more than any other movie in years, foreign or domestic. I love foreign pics, more specifically Korean, as one of my #1s proves. I hope MoM blows me away or at least very good. It doesn’t have to be Parasite good, but I’m sure I’ll like it if I liked Parasite. Just bought Barking Dogs Never Bite, even though free in Vudu, but $6 not bad for his first, digitally. I’ll give anything a chance, but it’s rare I get an OldBoy (2003) or Parasite.

I will say, it will be nice to see 2 African-Americans, Boseman and Daniel Kaluuya, most likely win both acting awards and most likely the Korean lady from Minari. Not to mention director of blah Nomadland.
Academy finally gets diversity is good, not political, in this case, but (hopefully) based on skill.

I went back to last year’s list and I think 6 of the 9 movies nominated last year are better than anything here.
Looks like Nomadland is the favorite, but I just don’t understand the love for the movie although I do get the love for Frances McDormand.
I am casting my vote for The Trial of the Chicago Seven. It seemed like the best one to me IMHO.

I know it's not the Best Picture of 2020, but if I am totally honest with myself, I think I liked News of the World better than any of these choices.
