Movies you will NEVER see because of a scene or actor/tress it contains?

In the shouldn't/couldn't/wouldn't thread somebody posted about a flick called A Serbian Film and a scene it contains. The very thought of it was so vile to me I instantly knew I'd never have to see this film because of it.

It got me thinking what flicks that you've just heard of something in it that would ensure you'd never see it. And then I thought, I suppose, why not open the door to actors and actresses.

While I can't edit the title, I'd add a Director as well. I know many friends who no longer want to see any Woody Allen films, for example.

I'll never watch a Woody Allen movie. And I've been holding off on Chinatown until Polanski bites it. If I hear something has a rape scene, I also won't watch it.

I see new Nicholas Cage movies showing up almost weekly in PPV. I would never even consider renting one of these because his presence ensures that the movie will be pure crap.
He has become the Edward Furlong of the 20's.

There are lots of movies I wouldn't rewatch for various reasons (like Requiem for a Dream) but I'm struggling to think of movies I haven't already seen that I had an interest in, that dwindled because of something that happened later.

Like I don't think I'd watch any movie with Bill Cosby in it, but I also can't think of much I had an interest in that I hadn't watched before. Non movie but I doubt I'll ever revisit the Cosby Show even though I remember liking it.

Yup. There's movies I have no interest in due to the subject matter in general, but it's never a case of a particular actor or single scene in the film.

ON topic, even though I've owned the DVD since it came out, I may never get around to watching Irreversible, partially because of the rape scene.

I’ve watched Jessica Biel movies, so I guess “none” for me too.

I still haven't seen Schindler's List, although I've owned in in various formats including picking up the 4K. Not sure what kind of mood I need to be in to watch it, but it's probably a combination of the topic and also the massive running time.

Regarding Nick Cage, many of his post peak product is decent, but it is overwhelmed by sheer quantity of dreck. Kick-Ass and Bad Lieutenant are older now, but Joe, Mom and Dad, and Mandy were really good. I still need to see Color Out of Space and Willy's Wonderland though.

I buckled down and watched it in early 2019. Made it 75% or so of the way through. Incredible film, but just so hard to watch. Gave me such a feeling of melancholy and anger.

Similarly, I turned off 13th after only a few moments, because of the indignation and pain I felt.

It was actually the opening of Irreversible that almost made me turn it off immediately. And I mean even before the violence happens. Just a literal descent into the nasty S&M clubs, and I knew it was a place I didn't want to go.

None. However, there are movies I'd consider offensive (some of Woody Allen's stuff, or Cannibal Halocaust for example) that I watch strictly in an "academic" mind-set. There's a lot of movies I don't like, but I watch them as they are part of cinema's history.

Re: Movies you will NEVER see because of a scene or actor/tress it contains?

I haven’t watched A Serbian Film, partially because of hearing of the infamous scene, but mainly because it sounded like a shit film. I have a pretty vivid imagination and when I see or hear a description of something like that, seeing it doesn’t usually affect me any more than having the thought put in my head in the first place. If I thought A Serbian Film was a great movie, I’d have no problem watching it, but I’m not going to seek out a lousy movie just because it’s got a fucked up, beyond the pale scene.

I’ve never seen a Woody Allen movie, less due to not wanting to support him financially and more believing I’d have a hard time losing myself in a movie with him onscreen. I have watched (and own & love) several Polanski movies.

I refuse to watch Blues Brothers 2000 for personal reasons. The original is one of my all-time favorite movies and it feels wrong to have another movie without John.

I mostly liked both The Crow and Strange Days but have passed on owning both due to graphic rape scenes.

I finally watched it for the first time the whole way through only a few years ago. I was afraid to for the longest time thinking it would be too grim. Its sad of course but technically and artistically its an achievement.

I've heard about a scene or two for a particular character on a beach in Under the Skin and I'm not going to watch that.

The Fever Pitch remake. The 2004 St. Louis Cardinals were nearly an unbeatable baseball team from June to early September. Then injuries took their toll on the team, and the team that made the World Series just wasn't the same team that played in the summer. The Red Sox swept them of course, and to add insult to injury I had to watch Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore prance around on the Busch Stadium field after the fourth and final game. I will never, ever, EVER watch that fucking movie.

Honestly, I don't really care anymore, but it's a point of pride now. Besides, if I want to watch Fever Pitch I'll just watch the Colin Firth movie.

Re: Movies you will NEVER see because of a scene or actor/tress it contains?

I used to say that about Greta Gerwig, based entirely on the trailers for her movies which made me cringe, and I still haven't seen a movie in which she appears. But I have seen two movies she directed and I liked the second one very much, so it's only a matter of time before I see something with her actually in it. So I learned to never say "never."

I stopped going to Woody Allen movies after MATCH POINT (2005), whether he's in them or directed them, for reasons I don't wish to discuss. But I was curious enough to watch the American Masters documentary about him that ran on PBS ten years ago. I don't remember what my reaction was at the time.

I generally avoid any Bollywood movies starring megastar Salman Khan just because I can't stand the dude (he essentially got away with killing someone while drunk driving) and because he's a lousy actor, though I've heard he's gotten a little better over the years.

I’ve never seen it but now I’m curious.

I wouldn’t completely rule out any movie if it piques my interest no matter who is in it or what content it has.

The closest I can think is Harmony Korine who hasn’t directed a single thing I’ve been remotely interested in and I have no desire to see anything he directs.

That's the one. Stevia powder is less treacle-y in comparison
