Disney/Pixar’s Luca (2021, D: Casarosa)

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water's surface.

While I like the change in character style, it seems kinda Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs-ish.

I guess Luca doesn't live on the second floor.

The cast and characters include:
- Jacob Tremblay (Room, Wonder) as Luca Paguro, a bright and inventive 13-year-old sea monster with endless curiosity—especially when it comes to the mysterious world above the sea;
- Jack Dylan Grazer (We Are Who We Are, Shazam) voices Alberto Scorfano, an independent, free-spirited teenage sea monster with unbridled enthusiasm for the human world;
- Emma Berman provides the voice of Giulia, an outgoing and charming adventurer who befriends Luca and Alberto;
- Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids, Saturday Night Live) voices Daniela, Luca’s mother;
- Marco Barricelli voices Massimo, Giulia’s father;
- Jim Gaffigan (The Pale Tourist, Troop Zero) voices Lorenzo, Luca’s father.

It just seems like the pro/con what they have available to offer to keep the subscribers.

Well if that pricing model works, why bring another Pixar film over for free?

I can see why they opted to toss this out for free. Felt more like it should've been a 15 minute short than a full on movie. Lots of fluff and overall boring.

Thank you, The Ringer. Somebody finally said it.
Is ‘Luca’ Just the Pixar Version of ‘Call Me by Your Name’? An Investigation.

Yeah, I was about to say.. this felt like a coming out story that fit with Pride Month, but I liked it more than Raya!

This was fine but probably not something I’ll see again. I probably preferred Raya because of the action, but neither was that great.

My kids loved it and My wife and I liked it. Big miss that they didn't make living in Italy a more prominent part because they nailed the small town aspect perfectly. And another glaring miss was that they never even touched as to what they were besides "sea monsters". Overall though, it was enjoyable but aimed more for the younger ones.

Saw it with the family over the weekend. They were making some Little Mermaid analogies with the fascination with the surface world. Worth the price paid.

I started singing “Look at this stuff / Isn’t it neat? / Wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete?” when he was looking at his surface treasures.
