I'm all in on a Palm Springs / Andy Samberg win.

James Corden's nomination is baffling, and I hear Sia's Music movie is just awful all around. I hear La Llorona is pretty great though (not to be confused with The Curse of La Llorona).

Question: Do the Golden Globes have rules like "film must play in New York and LA to be nominated" that they suspended this year, similar to what I recall the Oscars are doing?

Not many surprises. Da 5 Bloods was snubbed. That's too bad. Jared Leto was nominated. That's pretty hilarious.

Not this year, no. If it had a legitimate theatrical release planned for LA, then as long as it was released on VOD, Cable or Streaming before Februrary 28th, 2021 it is eligible.

While he was the only one that brought any life to that movie, it is an odd choice. But still better than Corden being nominated for anything.

And they made Hamilton eligible for movie awards. It is ineligible for Oscar because it's just a filmed stage play, not made as a movie.

The Leto nomination is unexplainable.

There is some big history hidden here though : a MAJORITY of the Best Director nominees are women!

It was easy for him to stand out in that sub-par movie. Especially with the comical character Malek played.

Odom Jr should definitely take that category.

BTW : There's a movie called Music?

It's Sia's autistic dancer movie. It comes out in IMAX Feb 10th, then VOD on the 12th, which makes it eligible under the current guidelines.

I don't think it's out yet.

Directed by Sia. Plays in IMAX next week. Digital shortly after.

I hope I'm not as disappointed by the Oscar noms. Seeing Mank nominated for Best Picture makes me wonder if they actually watched the movie, or just went by the reputation of its creators ("Let's nominate his late father, that'll be cute.")

Mank was in a lot of Top 10s for 2020 with critics and was AFI's movie of the year 2020. There's a good chance it'll be showing up at the Oscars.

It was a really down year (plus) for movies in general. Don't think there's a single one I will want to revisit. Maybe Palm Springs.

I was severely disappointed in Mank. I could get behind a couple Oscar nominations for acting and cinematography. Unfortunately, there were a lot of problems with it. Most notably the terrible screenplay by Jack Fincher (which it was oddly nominated for here).

Interesting. I had literally not heard a single word about it before this morning. Kate Hudson looks really weird bald. Might be interesting I guess, but doesn't look great outside of the musical numbers. It's got a terrible Rotten Tomato score of 29% on 7 reviews and doesn't yet have a score on Metacritic but has 2 reviews, both

So The Flight Attendant is nominated for best comedy or musical TV series? Oookay...

Here's hoping for another sweep by Schitt's Creek.

Mank was a tremendous disappointment for me, with a miscast Oldman playing an unlikable character we're never given a reason to be interested in and a choppy script and a wilful misinterpretation of Orson Welles’ role in Kane. Amanda Seyfriend and the nice BW cinematography are the only things about it worth nominating, I think. Of course, given Oscar's history with such things, it’s Fincher’s worst movie so of course he’ll probably win Best Director for it. Another case of Hollywood foaming at the mouth for movies about itself. Da 5 Bloods was robbed.

I thought Delroy Lindo deserved the nom most of all for that movie.

Diane Lane and Lesley Manville both continue to get snubbed for "Let Him Go". Two of the very best female performances of the year.

I've seen almost none of these nominees. But of the very, very few I've seen, this made me the happiest:

I'm interested to see who will win, honestly Mank was one of Fincher's weakest movies so I am surprised by this amount of nominations.

Manville should have been nominated for Ordinary Love last year.

Looks like Anthony Hopkins will be back on the Oscar scene again and might be a favorite to win.

Didn't see a thread on the nominations for television in TV Talk but I hope The Queen's Gambit win best limited series and Anya-Tayor Joy best actress.

Limited Series is basically a movie with better defined chapter breaks anyway.
