Supergirl (S4E22) -- Season Finale -- "The Quest for Peace" -- 5/19/19

SUNDAY, MAY 19

SEASON FINALE

SUPERGIRL

"The Quest for Peace" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)

LEX LUTHOR RETURNS - Lex Luthor (guest star Jon Cryer) descends upon Washington, DC and summons Lena (Katie McGrath) and Lillian Luthor (guest star Brenda Strong) to the White House. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) realizes she has one last chance to stop Lex and turns to the power of the press to help her. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Robert Rovner & Jessica Queller and teleplay by Rob Wright & Derek Simon (#422). Original airdate 5/19/2019.

Will return for a 5th season this Fall.

This will very likely be the last episode thread for this show since apparently most here just complain and hate watch this show now or dropped it. Kind of obvious it's just not appointment TV for this forum.

and no one here will be watching this tonight because of Game of Thrones.

Haven’t watched yet, but this is one of the shows that absolutely needs to just have a season thread next season.

This was pretty good. All the Luthers, Luther Power Suit, Red Daughter, Supergirl Armor.

Re: Supergirl (S4E22) -- Season Finale -- "The Quest for Peace" -- 5/19/19

My wife and I watched the 1st two episodes--and the Elseworlds one, of course--but eventually chose Flash And His Dumb Daughter Nora to watch weekly, and planned to just binge this after the season was done.

Does it get any better? I didn't like the whole "reflecting the real world issues" track it took. I get enough of that shit in the real world and there's no superheroes out here making sure everything wraps up neatly at the end of May so that really turned me off.

Is it worth watching? or should I just come in at some point when Luthor gets there?

Nope. Don't bother. You could come in and just watch the 4 or 5 Luther eps I guess. But other than that you'll hate the show.

Until I saw the title I had completely forgot that Cryer was in the fourth Superman movie with the same name.

The episodes with Lex were all pretty good this season. The show seemed tighter and more focused when he appeared. This was a decent season finale. I did enjoy Kara's radiation-proof suit.

I liked the suit but found the fight awkwardly staged with lots of stunt-Kara flips ... Interesting bits with the Monitor showing up here and in Legends. (Did anyone catch whether he was in the Flash's finale?)

The final fight looked extremely cheesey. Reminded me of the
Spoiler:
DeanxMichael vs. Lucifer fight
from the previous season of Supernatural.

Cryer was fantastic. I wish he was a series regular. My new favorite Lex.

Cryer was better than the last two film Luthors.

I liked Cryer as Luthor, and would like to see him back for the Crisis.

That's not saying much at all... Jesse Eisenberg sucked.

Anytime you can work in a SINATRA song(MY WAY), its good by me.
Yes, Jon Cryer was better then expected.

I watched this and the Legends finale back to back Monday night. Sadly, if you put a gun to my head I wouldn’t be able to give a synopsis of either show. They are such a chore to watch now, I may just tune in for the crossover next season.

This season was mostly good for me.
Loved Cryer as Luthor. Would have liked more then the 2 and a half eps he was in though.

one little question.
When they were on Shelley island with the power dampening devices why was J’Onn still in his earth form?

They ran out of money for his cgi? Shows often hit a budget wall near the end of their seasons.

Hate watch is right. Lex and the Red Daughter storyline were great. The huge amounts of screen time spent on the Alex romance was not, and we could do with a lot less of the characters being a mouthpiece for the executive producers.

Lena going dark and emo (and presumably evil next season) at the end made no sense to me. Yes, Kara lied about being Supergirl, but so what? Those other people lied to Lena to hurt her. It should be obvious Kara and the rest of team Supergirl didn't lie to hurt her. Heck, the footage Lex showed her has Kara saving her from those agents.

Cryer was the high point of the season. Other that that, the season was repetive, repetitive, and confused. Agent Liberty is the bad guy. Wait, an alien vengefully murders his wife in cold blood. Aliens are the bad guys?

And Lena? She's going to be upset that Kara didn't reveal her secret identity? How many secrets has Lena kept from Kara? I guess we're supposed to believe that super genius Lena has the emotional intelligence of a high schooler.

The characterization of "Agent Liberty" shifted throughout the show, -first he was a two-dimensional villain, than they started to give him some sympathetic (or at least motivational) layers, then they throw in the murder of his wife (but not using it to complete some kind of character arc one way or the other), and he ends up two-dimensional again.

I think the show did a good job showing that Agent Liberty had somewhat of a legitimate beef (though his tactics were not cool), but I think they did this by accident.

Yeah, they had that one origin episode for him, and I remember thinking, "Wow, Agent Liberty actually seems to be the hero of this season. Did they realize they were doing this when they wrote this episode?" and thought they'd have our heroes realize they were so wrapped up in their little superhero dramas, they weren't thinking of how it impacted the common man. But no, he's back to being a mustache twirler, except he then seemed like a mustache twirler that was right to be twirling.
