Marvel’s Ghost Rider coming to Hulu
The Runaways are getting a hot-headed Marvel friend over on Hulu.
Hulu — which is 60-percent owned by Disney — announced on Wednesday that it is expanding its partnership with Marvel Television by ordering two new series: Marvel’s Ghost Rider and Marvel’s Helstrom, both on track for 2020 premieres.
Ghost Rider, here in the form of Robbie Reyes, is a quintessential antihero, consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Robbie lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields. A version of the character was played by Gabriel Luna during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4.
Marvel’s Ghost Rider will be executive-produced by Ingrid Escajeda (Justified), who will serve as showrunner, Paul Zbyszewski (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb.

Variety has learned exclusively that Luna will star in the recently announced Hulu live-action series based on the comic book character. This will mark the second time that Luna has played Ghost Rider, previously appearing as the character in the ABC-Marvel series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” However, sources stress that this will be a completely new iteration of the character in no way connected to the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” storyline.
In addition to his time on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,” Luna’s other television credits include “True Detective,” “Wicked City,” and “Matador.” On the feature side, he is set to appear in the upcoming “Terminator: Dark Fate” opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton. He has previously appeared in films like “Bernie,” “Freehold,” and “Balls Out.”

So Luna is playing him, but it's not connected in any way to the version of the character that he played on AoS? That's not confusing at all.

I’m guessing that it will just take the character in a whole new direction and won’t be beholden to anything that came before it in prior storylines.

I hope that Cage comes in at some point and along with Helstrom, they can do a Spirits of Vengeance story.
Too bad they can't do a Midnight Sons team up since Werewolf By Night (I assume) and Morbius are Sony licensed.

No. Ghost Rider can be a more mature show, something they wouldn't necessarily show on Disney+. Marvel owns nearly all of Hulu (60% now, with more headed their way according to reports), so it's essentially a 2nd service for them to put edgier fare on.
