Dead to Me (Netflix) -- S: Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini; EPs: Ferrell, McKay
Jen (Christina Applegate) is a sardonic widow determined to solve her husband's recent hit-and-run murder. Judy (Linda Cardellini) is an optimistic free spirit who's recently suffered her own tragic loss. When the two women meet at a support group, they become unlikely friends despite their polar-opposite personalities. But as they bond over bottles of wine, Entenmann's cookies and a shared affinity for The Facts of Life, Judy desperately tries to shield Jen from a shocking secret that could destroy her life as she knows it. Dead to Me, created by Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls, One Big Happy), is an addictive dark comedy that dives into the painfully unfiltered, weirdly funny waters of grief, loss and forgiveness.

I finished it. I really liked it. Great acting, especially by our two leads. Hope it gets picked up for another season.

Enjoyed the first episode, as I like dark/awkward humor-drama type shows (If Will Ferrell is the producer than it will get dark/awkward in a good way). I wish more shows were a 1/2 hour as you can breeze through these seasons, as sometimes it's a chore watching the 1 hour dramas.

I really enjoyed the wit in episode one. Like a David Mamet or Shane Black script. It made me laugh out loud. That surprised me because I didn’t really look forward to watching it.
Doesn't feel like like a show to binge. But I will watch it over a few weeks.

Just finished the first season. WOW, did Christina Applegate do a fantastic job! I'd be surprised if she wasn't nominated for an Emmy next time around.

I found this to be a little predictable and a bit contrived. But it was still really, really good. And highly enjoyable. The writing and the two leads pull it off.

It would be considered a Comedy. Episodes are 30 minutes, which is currently the definition of a Comedy in their rules. Now there are times when hour-long shows have petitioned for consideration as a Comedy and been granted it (Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Shameless last year), but I don't think any 30 minute program has yet been considered a Drama for Emmy consideration. Will be interesting to see if Amazon's Homecoming becomes the first.

Well, I honestly did not see the end coming. This will make for a really interesting season 2. Wife and I really enjoyed this, fantastic performances from the leads.

I enjoyed this.
It was predictable for the most part, and I knew a big new problem would have to arise at the end as everything was already exposed - so there would be nothing to do in S2... I just didn't see that particular ending being the "new" thing.
I figured they were pushing the whole Steve being the bad guy in all this and him having control over Judy with the subtle hints they provided - ie. every time Steve says he's sorry for something, Judy would immediately say "it's ok" and forget all about what he said/done.
Applegate was really good in this. I wonder if they wrote the mastectomy angle and then cast Applegate (coincidentally or not), or added that angle after Applegate was cast.

Finished S1 tonight. Such a strong show. The two leads were great and Christina Applegate was as good as anyone I've seen on TV this year. The Emmy is still going to go to Julia Louise Dreyfus of course, but Applegate totally deserves it. She was mind-blowing.

Regardless, Christina Applegate is phenomenal (I was already a big fan, but she's proven she's an even better actress than I thought).

Just finished the series and read the remainder of this thread.
Still think both leads were amazing, and Applegate deserves an Emmy. And feel very strongly it should be a drama Emmy, not a comedy one. This was the heaviest shit I have watched in a while. The fact that it is witty and has some very funny moments doesn't make it less heavy.
But I know that the 30 minute format -- and the fact that Netflix calls it a comedy -- makes that highly unlikely.

Amazingly, it only got one Emmy nomination - Christina Applegate - Best Lead Actress in a Comedy. Another Netfilx dramady I enjoyed, albeit a little less, Russian Doll picked up 10 nominations. That just doesn't seem right to me.
